A security guard has been killed by a python near a luxury hotel on Indonesia's resort island of Bali.
Agung Bawa, assistant security manager at the Bali Hyatt hotel in Bali's Sanur area, says the incident happened at about 3am today as the 15ft python was crossing a road near the hotel, which is closed for renovations until 2015.
People watching were unable to help and called the police, who came but failed to save the man. The python escaped into nearby bushes.
Bawa says the victim, Ambar Arianto Mulyo, a 59-year-old security guard at a nearby restaurant, had managed to secure the snake's head and tail, but the python then wrapped itself around Mulyo's body and strangled him to death.
The middle secured the guard.
...not a software story.
Uhhh, no it’s not.

Note to self: Never go to Indonesia without lots of Snake Away.
.....or a pointy stick?
or a rock?
Wouldn’t a python try to swallow him whole? I thought Boas were the well-known constrictors.
I saw the headline and assumed this happened in Florida, like happened not long with that kid's dog losing to a snake in his back yard.
A 15’ python crossing the street at 3am. A 60 yo guard pins it’s head and neck down. Why? What is the plan? Was he going to make boots? I suspect there may be more to this story. Alcohol involved perhaps?
Burmese pythons are a real problem in the US everglades.
Many people I know from my time working there in the 90’s say they NEVER camp out any more. They also never go into a shed or garage in the dark.
“Why did the python cross the road? “
To join a breeding ball? In truth, anaconda males cross roads, rivers, and everything else to get there. Party time for snakes!

Why go hunt for them if you can get them to come to you?
Good idea, snake lures. LOL But did you see that female anaconda’s blissful smile? Evidence that God made snakes too well, He did.

3 a.m. at a closed hotel and there are people hanging around watching the fight. Something was going on there.
In before the pitbull/python fans!
I've always been a big fan of smaller, native snakes and respect and value their place in the food chain. I like them a lot more than mice, rats and gophers.
However, my opinion changes with perspective when my family, pets and I are on their menu.
I'd like US better without Kudzu, those jumping asian carp and snakes big enough to eat you or me, family and pets, but that's just me.
