Two North Carolina parents are in shock after local police shot and killed their 18-year-old son in their own home, while they watched helplessly.
The family called police because they were worried about their son, Keith Vidal, who is schizophrenic and suffers from depression, according to local news. Vidal, armed with a small screwdriver, was apparently having a psychotic episode. Mark Wilsey, Vidals father, called the authorities to help deal with the situation.
An officer from the Brunswick County Sheriffs Office and another from the Boiling Spring Lakes police department showed up to the house soon after. Eventually, a third officer from the Southport police department entered the home as well, and ordered the use of tasers to subdue Vidal. According to Wilsey, Vidal was pinned on the ground by two of the officers when a third said, we dont have time for this, and shot Vidal, killing him.
Vidal had just turned 18, and weighed a mere 90 pounds. He couldnt have hurt anyone with the screwdriver, and had no history of violence according to family and friends.
There was no reason to shoot this kid, said Wilsey in a statement. They killed my son in cold blood. We called for help and they killed my son.
After her son was killed, Vidals mother suffered a mental breakdown and was treated by medical staff.
The New Brunswick County Sheriffs Office told The Daily Caller that no statement has been released yet, but the district attorney and state investigators are looking into the shooting.
A similar thing happened to a Georgia family in October. (RELATED: Family calls 911 for medical help, cops show up and kill son)
I will only call the cops to come draw the chalk outlines around deceased intruders. Everything else gets handled in-house. I have seen friends and family screwed over by law enforcement. I appreciate their function in society, and their individual efforts... But not what they have collectively become - a force for intimidation and oppression.
ROFL - great post, thanks!
Well then just google “police shoot” every day in the news and in about a week or less you will get it.
In the show they explain how uniforms and positions of power are particularly appealing to psychopaths. I don't have an exact quote but it was quite interesting to me.
I have a daughter adopted from Russia at age 7 who was always considered to be a sociopath by the tons of mental health professionals I dragged her to over the years while raising her. She set fires, was kicked out of daycare for being a bully, etc. I really tried but as she matured it was clear she is more about things and using people - she was a superbly skilled con artist at age 7 and I believe became better as she grew up. I don't think she will be a serial killer but she will never be normal I am sure.
She is now off my relationship radar but I do know that she is mid-20's and working as a security guard. Just fascinated me.
Oh so to not be so abstract, it seems to me that bullies, sociopaths and even psychopaths are most likely drawn to the profession and lately they are taking over.
Police officer is number 7 on the list of ten.
U2...and tks
Agreed
Folks stop maturing at different ages
The more you continue to mature the better....I think anyhow
What do mean “how dare you accuse me of that”. You, like many others are taking a slow down wait and see approach. I am arguing that we are way past the point of no return. I don’t get the “how dare you” reaction. It is what it is. You are not the only one here, and in society at large with the slow down wait and see attitude towards official corruption. I don’t get the outrage as you are a proponent of slow down wait and see.
I used to be where you are. I thought that the cops and officialdom deserved the benefit of the doubt and the last word. I thought that because I thought that America was special. I thought that America was the righteous purveyor of good on a polluted sphere. I don’t think that any more.
That is depressing.
It illustrates perfectly why giving power to strangers is a risky deal.
Right up to the point where you turn to vinegar...
OK Darius, you win. Cops are the scourge of the earth and don’t even deserve to breathe the same air we do. They’re licensed murderers and act accordingly. Is that better??? This conversation is over. I’ll let you get back to your obsession, your witch hunt....maybe you could become a police reporter and free-lance your services all over the country.
MarMema.....talk to Darius. Maybe you two could have coffee sometime. You seem to have a lot in common.
Oh. Dear.
“Seventy seconds: That’s how long a North Carolina family says it took for things to go horribly wrong as they sought police help dealing with their mentally ill son.
Keith Vidal, 18, died Sunday. According to CNN affiliate WECT, he was just shot 1 minute and 10 seconds after a third law enforcement officer showed up at his Brunswick County home.”

Tell me, do you consider “70 seconds” a reasonable amount of time to wait before murdering a mentally ill 18 year old?
Apparently, 70 seconds is too long for you:
“Although the state Bureau of Investigation is looking into the shooting, the chief prosecutor for the state’s 13th Judicial District, which includes Brunswick County, says it’s way too early to characterize what happened.”
I’ll wait for the actual investigation, not the Law Enforcement-hating brigade who think they know it all.
They learned the hard way, unless you want a relative killed, never, never, never involve[call]the police.
Ping for you and you can ping AlaskaWolf.
