With all the paintings lying around, I wonder if she plundered through stuff to sell some to escape. Then I wondered ... what a perfect way to hide a murder.

What if some odious Nazi was trying to blackmail her or something and she killed him, hid the body in the apartment and kept paying rent but never went back in order to hide the crime.

H’mm.

Thank you for the link. Someone, out of a few, it seems, broke her heart and she never returned. Boldini perhaps?

Money was never an issue and the rent payments continued for almost seven decades. I can only imagine the amount on the Right Bank, unless that was frozen in time as well. I highly doubt it. She must have had money managers with her wealth.

It’s been many, many years since I was in Paris. My mind drifts back to looking up at the beautiful balconies along the streets in the Quartier Latin and imagining the lives of those who lived there.

No matter the wars, the politics; Paris was a magical place for me - to visit! :)

It seems more like she just walked away from it and never returned.

What an incredible coincidence! Just yesterday, researchers announced that the internet had provided no proof of time travel:

Search of the Internet for evidence of time travelers comes up empty

If only those researchers had waited another day, they would have had this conclusive proof!

a good portion of dust in the house comes from the furnace blowing dust through the duct work. I find very little dust on the furniture in the basement...Had a Christmas tree in the basement, decorated and after several years it still wasn't dusty. Of course some of the dust is made up of castoff old skin flakes and any animal in the house...

From that linque;

"Born on 9 September 1864, the beautiful Madame Marthe de Florian (whose birth name was Mathilde Héloïse Beaugiron) originally owned the apartment and used it to entertain special male guests. During La Belle Époque, Marthe was a famed actress and demimondaine (courtesan) known for having a bevy of famous lovers that include Georges Clemenceau (before he was the 72nd Prime Minister of France), Pierre Waldeck-Rousseau (68th Prime Minister of France), Paul Deschanel (11th President of France), Gaston Doumergue (13th President of France), and the Italian artist Giovanni Boldini. The UK's Daily Mail reports that there are even passionate love letters tied in silk ribbon within the apartment - oh how I would love to read them!"

Seems to be a talented, fashionable and wealthy ho.

Nobody in the room, therefore no skin cells, so no dust.

Wonder why the Nazis never found out about this?

It may have been radiator heat. But still you’d expect some spider webs. Well I don’t have 30 years to shut off a room and try an experiment lol.

When an auctioneer entered the apartment, he found a treasure trove. The apartment, although covered in a thick layer of dust, was like a piece of history frozen in time.
From above link.As they already sold the painting the auctioneer probably already had a cleaning crew in there.

"apartment, slthough covered in a thick layer of dust," One would have thought so. Thanks.

It was the furnishings that got to me. So gorgeous. Maybe only the wealthiest can afford antique furniture like that now.

I get a little covetous when I see things like that. And I sure haven't seen too much of it.

You are right on radiator heat. Thats what we had on the farm, 100 year old home, no spiders but lots of mice. I had traps sent all over the house. My dog would hear a trap snap shut and off she’d run checking the traps. I told my dad that those dam mice would do square dancing in the dining room. The house was in good condition, wood floors etc. Radiators in every room, but the mice could find very small spaces to get in the house. Should have had a house cat, but hubby was not a cat friendly kinda guy.

I have a cat, don't like mouse traps and don't like the way they play with mice and sometimes don't get around to killing them. I've rescued several. Some play dead. And if I'm spared seeing them stalk and kill them, I will get rid of the dead ones, can't say I lose any sleep over that.

However on the downside it is not fun to have mice turds in your kitchen drawers, empty them all out, wash everything, and wash the drawers with Lysol. Ugh.

So far a patch in the kitchen wall from inside and more patching on the outside has kept them out. Oh if it will just last. I really don't want them in the house.

Maybe you can find where they are getting in? I know they can squeeze through tiny spaces.
