OF COURSE McCain gave the election run a little (actually a LOT) less than his best.
Now, Sarah Palin probably reversed a lot of the sentiment that was running against McCain. But there was a double objective here. By tying Sarah to a loser, this was an attempt to also dim HER star, for any future plans of bringing a fiscal and social conservative to national prominence.
The popular take-away on this was supposed to be, that Sarah was such a drag on the ticket, it would prove George Soros right, that conservatism is a losing strategy and philosophy.
But if she were such a drag on the ticket, the margin would have been 65% popular vote for the Current Occupant, to about 35% for McCain. Actual vote, 52.9% to 45.7%
