The Beatles are overrated, and there’s nothing intrinsically special about them. Their fame derives from them being on the scene at the right point in time George Martin.

Although I think Willie Dixon did get some money out of them for “Whole Lotta Love.”

There was one band that was constantly the Beatles greatest rivals until their innovative leader let drugs screw things up and lost his edge...The Beach Boys and Brian Wilson.

The Beatles led the Brit invasion years and have no peer in the world of popular rock. There are 4 bands on that list that also made a lasting mark in rock. The Everly Brothers tight harmonies and Buddy Holly’s raw 3-piece rock & roll band paved the way for the Beatles. JMHO

So, to summarize:

The Beatles
The Who
Led Zeppelin
Queen

That’s about it, really.

The Who didn't make the list?

Utter dishonesty.

Pink Floyd. But, having seen The Replacements live about 25 years ago, I gotta say they were really something.

good point, but he wasn’t quite as big. close tho. of course elvis was more establishment than the beatles, which is one reason why they were hyped and foisted upon the world as much as they were. now i wasn’t an elvis fan until after he died, so i may be a tad biased, but i think in total he was close, but not quite. he served in the military (iirc) while the beatles were anti war.

not trying to change your mind, just explaining my position.

Obviously, the guy (Mike Mettler) who came up with the "11 better in my opinion" isn't finding much agreement around here.

A lot of also bands, some influence, but limited.

As to Rush being anywhere near a list like this ---? huh?

The Replacements? Forget that noise. How in the sam billy do they even deserve any recall to memory at all? They can't share the same stage with the likes of Tom Petty, and as much as I may like his stuff he ain't no Beatle when it comes to range.

But at least Petty & the Heartbreakers knew how to rock.

I agree with Led Zeppelin.

You do? What did this 'Led Zeppelin', if that is his real name, say?

The Replacements can surely share the stage with Tom Petty. I saw it with my own eyes. They opened for Tom Petty back around 1990 somewhat.

Yeah, hope I did not sound harsh. I like Rush, a good bit, actually, but Better? Not even close, IMHO. The were/are a better loud music Rock band (crank it!), I concur, but not in totality.

Mention of the Who, as a couple of posters before, should be in order.

The Band? Uggh. Couple of hits at best.

Eleven better than the Beatles? I don’t think so. Only one that I can think of: Whoever is playing behind Amy MacDonald. And even then it’s really only a tie.

Gentle Giant is EASILY in the top eleven. Their musical arrangement is beyond anything any band in this top 11 was capable of. Led Zeppelin belongs in the top 11, however.
