Jim Caviezel portrays Jesus Christ in "The Passion of the Christ" (2004); Diogo Morgado plays the same figure in "Son of God" (2014).

It’s a film my family and I will not go see.

It sounds like this one has fallen into the normal Hollywood trap of trying to remake Jesus into their own image.

Isn’t this movie the same one that was on cable a little while ago? They just edited out the ozero satan lookalike?

I doubt it. It has "made for TV" written all over it.

From the trailers I have seen, the production values of Son of God are not even anywhere close to those of Passion of the Christ.

All I know is that I’m not going to watch it.

For most of the people at my Chruch and the Christian groups I attend on a weekly basis this movie isn’t even on their radar. When Passion was coming out that’s all anyone was talking about.

Don't know about it being on cable as I stopped mine, but a friend sent this trailer to me this a.m. and it mentions the obama/satan thing down in the article.

SoConPubbie is exactly correct, it’s an abhorrent ‘Hollywood’ film:

But there was one major Jesus film that is an ageless masterpiece:

Mel Gibson was driven to make the Passion of the Christ, and he refused all compromises. This one sounds opportunistic. “Let’s do a Bible movie—it’s certain to make a lot of money. And we’ll even consult the Evangelicals to increase our audience!”

They were only too ready to compromise, as the removal of Satan and the three temptations of Christ demonstrates. The director might as well have been Jan Brewer, after caving like that.

There have been quite a few films that portray the life of the Master and some do a fair job. The Passion of the Christ was the first to focus on a specific time frame just prior to His death and gave a few flashback details as to His humanity. It reached to the soul of the audience far better than any film prior (or after, IMHO) because it stressed the torture He went through in our place. All other films gloss over the horrors Jesus faced, but willingly went to, as our Paschal Lamb.

This new film is milquetoast in comparison.

RE: Mel Gibson was driven to make the Passion of the Christ, and he refused all compromises.

Ever since his self-destructive, drunken, anti-semitic slur, the man hasn’t had a decent run in the movies at all.

He’s being treated like a leper by producers.

Good Lord. What tripe. Yes it is the same series as was played on TV and on DVD, however they took a 10 hour mini series and made it a 2-hour movie. They just edited the ozero satan lookalike....what crap that comes from your fingers.

Rick Warren, Joel Osteen and TD Jakes are NOT a “grassroots movement.” They are the Christian equivalent of manufactured mass marketing.

As Mel Gibson should be, have you seen “The Beaver”? Good Lord he should never work again. Unfortunately for you, he has had a movie every year since his incident so it is unfortunate that your post is a lie.

Gibson will make an appearance in The Expendables 3. He’s defintely fallen from his height, but a full pariah he isn’t.
