Heck of a job for a 12-yo. My grandfather hauled in a 112 lb catfish from the Missouri river at Jefferson City in 1898 when he was 12. He was a lifetime fisherman and he always said that it was the hardest fish he ever landed.

Bad headline. When it comes to fishing, there is a difference between catching and snagging.

Based on my grandfathers’ description and his rememberance all his life I would bet he’ll be telling his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. That’s a pretty dense fish, definitely heavy. My grandfather said he fought with it several hours and it was as big as he was.

My 12-year-old son only weighs about 75 lbs. Fish goes *gulp* ...

If you go to the article it says he was using shad for bait sounds like catching to me.

That is what I was saying. He didn't snag the fish. A lot of states will not give you a record if you snag the fish.

That's probably bigger than he is.

I've caught catfish (Flathead) before, although the ones here aren't like the south. I've caught a couple of big trout and some big red snapper and bluefish on the ocean back in the day.

But this is over 4 times the biggest fish I've caught. I tip my hat to this kid.
