“I hate what a shotgun does to squirrels.”
Late in the season when the doves were skittish and wouldn’t come anywhere near a hunter, my dad would shoot a Remington 1100 with a 30” full choke barrel. One of his friends asked what he did to avoid mangling a dove that happened to fly close by. Without hesitating my dad said “I just shoot them in the head”. Hey, it might work for squirrels.
What is wrong with him? It’s not squirrel season!
Good thing he was using a shotgun then, and i don't recall the article saying which direction he was firing said weapon except at squirrels.
How far we have fallen.
Shotgun = glock = .22 = AK400,320.7
Take COVER! LOCK DOWN THE SCHOOLS!
exactly. All information suggests that he was hunting in a perfectly safe and legal manner and the community overreacted. This is, sadly, a sign of the times.
From the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources website.
Hunting Information
Fox squirrels are considered a game animal in South Carolina and may be hunted along with gray squirrels. Squirrel season annually in South Carolina opens on October 1 and closes on March 1.
If this happened in March it was not legal to hunt squirrels in SC. Blood of Tyrants is right.
Might have been a .410. A squirrel is about all they can handle... Had friend who used one when we went squirrel hunting, and it didn’t mangle them too bad... Not as clean as my head shots with a .22, but still edible.
“I think this shows the new security protocols are working. The bus driver was correct in reporting the possible danger and the sherrifs office correctly checked it out. The kids are worth it.”
I think this shows that we are going insane as a society. There was no threat. None of the school shootings that we have seen ever started out with a person openly carrying a gun a block from the school.
We lock kids up for *three hours* for no real reason. That is much more insane than the “duck and cover” drills ever were.
.22 is the only thing I’ll use. No sport with a scatter gun.
Ruger 10-22 with a scope. No miss, no fuss and no torn up meat.
My exact tool of choice.
