Original “Ben Hur” was made in 1925 for about $4 million, making it the most expensive film at that time (I googled it).

Produced/directed by Lew Wallace, starring Ramon Novarro as Ben Hur and Frances X Bushman as his friend.

A rally good film for so early a time in cinematography.

Actually both BEN HUR films are good, the silent and Charlton Heston versions.

I didn’t include it because it sorta stretches the definition of “remake,” but The Sound of Music is based on a GERMAN movie. How’s that for wierd.
