President Obama is committing more military resources, including aircraft and special operations forces, to the hunt for notorious African warlord Joseph Kony.

Early Monday, the White House confirmed a Washington Post report that the U.S. was sending "associated support personnel," and a "limited number" of CV-22 Osprey aircraft to assist local forces in their long-running battle against Kony's Lord's Resistance Army, or LRA. Obama sent about 100 U.S. troops to help the African forces in 2011.

Interesting interview about Executive outcomes with David Isenberg. I can’t tell if Isenberg is a liberal but he appears to be a regular Huffpo contributor. In the interview he speaks pretty highly of EO.

If Uganda were Israel, they wouldn’t see any military aid until they agreed to hand over territory to Kony’s “resistance”.

I’ve been skeptical of this anti-Kony B.S. since that orchestrated campaign on NPR, PBS, HuffPo, Kos, etc a couple of years ago, that my friend’s fathead kid harped about in his HuffPo Facebook “shares”.

It’s particularly odd, because no one in the Zero regime appears to care one bit about the ongoing mass murder carried out continually for decades in Africa my muzzies.

Thanks armydawg505.

Obama pursues missions like this precisely because there is very little or no US interest in doing so. This is post-imperialist foreign policy philosophy pushed by our UN ambassador Samantha Powers. They think the world hates us because we use force to defend our interests but that if we use force for humanitarian purposes where we are not motivated by self-interest, then the world will like us and all will be better. Every day is Opposites Day for these Lefties.

Kony operates in an area known as the African Pole of Inaccessibility. Yes, he needs killing. But after 30 years in the jungle...

Sorry to be a nit-picker, but that part of Northern Uganda/Southern Sudan is not jungle. It is semi-arid grassland, lots of big rock outcrops & boulders and very few trees. Long dry seasons and the rivers flow only during the rainy season.

As to the "Pole is Inaccessibility", there are reasonable dirt roads coming up from the south. We used to live about 100 miles east of the edge of Kony's range, in an even more inaccessible area. Back in the 1970's & 80's, our village would see a vehicle only every 6 to 18 months if we were not in there. Gulu, Kitgum and that area of Kony's territory have lots of road traffic.

From the air, I used to watch packs of wild dogs and even rabbits, let alone larger game. Put a Predator over the area at night with IR sensors and you'll spot everyone out there. There is a nice paved runway airport at Soroti, 120 miles SE of Gulu to base the Predator. Unless Kony is intermingled with the cattle herders, you would have no trouble narrowing down his location. A large group of men without cattle will either be a cattle raiding party headed to a neighboring tribe or Kony.

He could try to hide in the papyrus swamps along the White Nile north of Juba, but again IR sensors, especially at night would find him.

Social media driven villainy just like Mubarak was in Egypt.

I don’t doubt anything you say but if that is all true then why haven’t 100 of our best been able to find him after three years?

Probably not, but eliminating Mugabe would shake up the power structure something fierce. His successor just might be more preoccupied with getting Zimbabwe to make some money now versus avenge bloody tribal debts into infinity. Even China has acknowledged some of the pros of capitalism. In fact, the Chinese may virtually take over, although any leader of Zimbabwe would be a native appointed by the Chinese investors.

What is your source for the “100 men looking for three years”?

Obama?

Of course, if he has dispersed his men and is no longer a fighting force other than as a dispersed sleeper cell in hiding, then that is a different problem.

If the “100 men looking for three years” means a few analysis and lawyers at Langley and an equal number of comm analysts at Ft Meade, then it is understandable that they have not found him. On the other hand, put a SEAL team or SF team in the bush leading motivated soldiers and having Acholi, Nuer & Dinka speaking translators then they would have a much better chance.

Have there been any confirmed sightings of, or statements from, Kony in the past three years?

As for the 100 special forces operators who’ve been looking for Kony since 2011 it was widely published. I posted some of the articles about them setting up a base in Obo, CAR. Believe it, don’t believe it, that’s your choice.

As for Kony being alive or dead how do any of us know? The man almost never gave interviews and the last one was six years ago if I recall correctly. Once again believe who you want. Since you’ve lived over there I’m sure you have plenty of insight I don’t.

I have not been following the search for Kony story. I lived in Northwestern Uganda when Alice Lakwena started that group. They were far enough to the west of us that they posed no threat.

However, I have read articles about Kony’s victims whenever I’ve encountered them.

Obo, CAR, huh? That’s 450-500 miles away from Gulu, Kitgum & Lira.
