I've got 20 of the first batch of tobacco plants in the ground now. They were the only ones that survived out of the first batch of 156. The second batch is still pin-head size and I'm not going to put them out until they grow a little more.

Your tobacco still has plenty of time. When the nights start getting warmer, those plants will probably take off running.
How many plants does it take to sustain one smoker for one year?

Sounds like summer. You guys got cheated out of spring this year. I thought two weeks ago your nights were below freezing.
I'm used to a 3 hour spring. That seems to be the kind we have most often.

I know one that has injectable Penicillin. I never doctored any fish, but I have a bunch of 4 footed critters.

Ouch! I understand the vicious cycle of the kind you describe. I wish you well and hope that you are able to find a solution to mitigate the pain you suffer.
I appreciate your admonishment about the seeds. I have quite a few old packs that I just simply WILL NOT throw out, thinking (and hoping) that “in the event” maybe some would produce despite the odds...and at the same time hoping that I won’t truly ever be required to rely on my garden skills!
That is so cool about the peanuts and chamomile. I’ve not attempted peanuts. I had a similar experience with the chamomile, but mine have not volunteered as of yet!
LOL! I bought a tray with the little soil pellets, but did not try the self watering one. So far the pellets are working ok...but I’m using old egg boxes, paper cups, and the like. I know I’m a sucker, but sometimes I just don’t know what works and what doesn’t! It’s all part of the Grand Gardening Experiment!
:-D You sound like me! I just love obtaining the seeds and dreaming! I routinely pay probably way too much for seeds that I think I might want to try - mostly those which are heirloom, might be draught and heat hardy, and which might be difficult to obtain.

I put away the seed starting greentent yesterday. I still have some seeds to start, but they dont need grow lights and light bulbs for warmth. I just cant get going lately, starting more seeds, the squash, ghost peppers, and cukes. I still have one lone mater in a 16oz cup to plant, that Prudens Purple potato leaf mater. I have not inventoried mater stakes either, may have to cut some new ones.
The RCG is doing good. It looked like they grew 2” after watering the day before. Need to feed them, too. Maybe today, maybe not. Woke up with backache and sick stomach, so I may just veg out today.
84 forecast for today. The leaves in the debris pile from the ice storm have just turned brown. I think I was also napping when springtime passed through here.
As you know, my son lives in London and grew up in Texas. He says England has two days of summer when the sun shines and he runs into the back yard with shorts on and without his shirt and sits in the sun those two days.
I got the humming bird feeder and I'm too wiped out right now to mix the nectar and put the thing outside. There were a few drops of rain on the windshield when I came out from Lowes and it hasn't rained and the sun is out.
I asked at Lowes if I should replace the soil in the pot of the orange tree. I was told to put fertilizer in that soil occasionally. I looked at every fertilizer there for citrus trees and none will do as they are for trees in the ground and you have to put the fertilizer no closer than 2 ft. to the drip line of the tree. That won't work for a pot as two feet from the drip line is on the deck. I have to research to find out what one uses for fertilizer for citrus in the pot.
I didn't like the directions on any of those fertilizers for fruit trees. “Don't let any fertilizer touch the trunk of the tree.” If that stuff is going to kill the trunk, I wouldn't want it. That's like taking a medicine and the side effect is death.
I got the seeds I ordered from Park Seed. The only seeds I'm going to start are Pepper Sweet Pickle because it's for containers and small and the peppers are a number of different colors. I also got Ornamental Pepper called NuMex Easter, and Okra Green Fingers which is a small plant for containers. I won't start seeds for those now.
Johnny, the tobacco leaves are getting much larger every day. I have got to transplant those. I'll do that tomorrow as I'm not going anywhere tomorrow.
But I'll wait.

Hello Marcella . . . Lowe’s carries a granular citrus fertilizer made by Miracle Grow. It comes in a green plastic jug with an orange lid, which is what I use for my potted citrus trees. I was told by citrus growers in Arizona to fertilize 3 times a year Valentines day, Memorial day and Labor day, as those are easy dates to remember. I hope this helps.
