--With my knees, it’s too painful to do much so my day is scheduled around a few minutes on them here and there throughout the day and that’s not enough to lose any weight so it’s a vicious cycle.--

That sounds familiar. I feel your pain. My wife has had a knee go south on her a while back and now has that walk. . I tell people in a week, I can get a good half days work in. It's not too far from the truth.

I have used both ways to 105, circle route and Longmire. I do the circle to 105 when going to beauty shop.

Well, you are staying busy and accomplishing something and that’s better than having to stay in your chair or the bed.

Last night was miracle night in the garden.

The four grow bags with carrot seed in them had no carrots coming up yesterday and today have GOBS OF CARROTS up.

I'VE GOT BABY STRAWBERRIES! I saw none yesterday. Now, there are baby strawberries everywhere on those 30-40 plants. I must have missed some of those yesterday as some are large enough I should have seen them. If the baby strawberries are growing in the middle of where blooms were, they are viable strawberries, right?

Over night, the 8 tobacco plants in four pots have huge leaves compared to yesterday. They have got to go in bigger pots immediately if not sooner.

The EZ Lettuce is taller in the long wood planter than yesterday. The St. Anne lettuce is definitely up in the three foot long planter and they weren't up yesterday.

There were two squirrels on the wall today and they surely wanted in but Prissy keeps them out of the garden.

How to remove duct tape when it is solidly stuck/fastened to a doggy's paw:
Yesterday Prissy was outside and when I let her in she had stepped on a piece of duct tape that had come off a pot. I cut off what I could but the rest was stuck like concrete on that paw. There was no way to cut any more off. Later, I got a call from engineer checking on me. I told him about the tape and paw and he said put some cooking oil in a bowl and stick her paw in it, then gradually work the oil under the edges of the tape and it will let go.

I did that with Prissy sitting on the top of the stove so she wouldn't try to get away if she didn't like my doing this, and I worked the oil gradually under the tape and it peeled off immediately when the oil hit it. It took no longer than five minutes and I think it was less, to get that tape off with no pulling, it just peeled off completely letting go as oil got on it. If you ever want tape off something, get oil under one bit and that bit will unglue and keep pushing the oil under the tape and it's coming off.

That's the way of tobacco. They stay tiny for what seems like forever, and then suddenly, tobacco!

Yes, it is better. It’s nighttime that gives me such trouble(pain) Also, Gracie has a bedtime routine of playing with her baby doll, a purple monkey. She has had this little toy since we got her when it was as big as she was. We play fetch and tug-of-war for about 15 minutes after hitting the bed. She will walk up me from foot to shoulders and drop her baby in my face for me to play. Also, same deal if I get up during the night. And first thing in the morning, same thing. She wont play with me sitting at my desk, I must be lying down so It can hurt!

“She will walk up me from foot to shoulders and drop her baby in my face for me to play.”

I sit in my recliner to keep pressure off my spine, and Prissy jumps on the chair and goes to my chest and beats on it with her paws and backs off dancing and beats on me again and backs off and dances - she wants me to act like I'm going to get her so she jumps off the chair and wants me to get up and play that game. If she hears the UPS truck she does the same, beats on my chest, to get me to pick her up and go to door to see truck. If she hears something outside, she runs and jumps on the chair and beats on chest until I got to the front or back door where she heard the sound.

Both you and I have a small dog who considers our body is theirs to play with. I'm taking her to groomer tomorrow morning so I'll go to Lowes for the hummingbird thingy and go to Kroger and pick up med at Walgreens. The groomer is one block or less away from me on my “shopping street” which is what I call 336 up to HEB and down to Lowes. Only have to get off shopping street for doctor and beauty shop.

I think when you come to town you get what you want on that shopping street, too. Once I sent my friend in Bandera a list of almost every thing on shopping street and she was amazed all that was between Lowes and HEB. I think that street should be in “Ripples Believe It Or Not”. How many miles is it from HEB to Lowes? One mile or less?

There was a thread on FR a couple of days ago about Walgreens going to close some of their stores. I came close to a heart attack thinking my Walgreens could close. Surely it won't. I just won't allow that.

A while ago, I looked out at garden, can see it from my chair, and a flying insect was going from flower to flower on my orange tree. I think it was a wasp, not a bee and I've seen some wasps out there. Are wasps considered a source of moving pollen from flower to flower? This is not a dumb question for me to ask because I don't know the answer to the question.

Having never grown any plant at all until last year (and screwing up most of that), there are many facts I still don't know that are common knowledge to people like you and the others on the gardening threads.

Pollination[edit]
While the vast majority of wasps play no role in pollination, a few species can effectively transport pollen and therefore contribute for the pollination of several plant species, being potential or even efficient pollinators;[4] in a few cases such as figs pollinated by fig wasps, they are the only pollinators, and thus they are crucial to the survival of their host plants.

Our pups are silly, ain’t they? That’s why we keep them. Gracie had a traumatic experience while we were in the shop today. Elmer, the 14yo poodle saw somebody walking down the street with a dog about 50lbs, maybe more. Elmer started his whine that signals he wants to go meet somebody in the street, I immediately hollered for him to stay(he will mind if you are loud and forceful sounding) Gracie, who minds never, took off out towards the street(on her 32ft chain) with me yelling for her to come back. Well large dog wanted to meet and be friends; when he came toward Gracie, she turned in terror and came running inside at top speed screaming like she was getting her head cut off. She hid behind me and the other dog came right up in the shop to say hello. Gracie barked nonstop at the top of her lungs, having made no impression on the big dog. His owner was apologizing and calling her dog to return. They walked a few feet and the dog returned to Gracie. Gracie was scared to death; she barked for 10 minutes. I’m sure the lady was several blocks away, still hearing Gracie barking uncontrollably. I finally decided she was not going to stop so I picked up my saw and cut 3 boards to length. By the time I finished sawing, she had stopped except for an occasional bark. It scared her to death! But she knew to hide behind me, I would not let anything happen to her. Ya juss gotta love’em!

Just for future reference, when the need to remove an adhesive residue on a surface that nothing seems to remove, use gasoline. Wet a rag with gas, I mean wet, not damp, and it will wash right off. Not applicable to Yorkshire feet, sorry.

More Hints from Heloise, er..from r_d: Can’t get the amber colored burnt gunk that accumulates, no matter how much you clean around the burner on your gas stove, use a bit of lacquer thinner on a rag, not very much because fumes are strong. Will require gloves, eye protection and scrubbing. Open a window and point a fan blowing the fumes away, but it will cut the burnt gunk off that kitchen cleaners will not faze. Lacquer thinner can be had in Lowes paint dept in pint cans.

Can’t get the years of accumulated water stains off in your bathroom due to crummy water. CLR doesn’t work? Bathroom cleaners don’t work? Try Zep bathroom cleaner, an industrial product, now available in Lowes. It takes scrubbing and rinse and repeat, but 30 years of bad water stains can be completely gone with plenty of elbow grease. Zep products have served industry for years and can now be had over the counter. Be warned: they do use various acids as active ingredients, gloves, eye protection and proper ventilation required.

Please use good judgment using these commercial products and read the labels before using and use gloves and eye protection, along with proper ventilation.

I am so glad your plants are growing well. I actually planted some potatoes today. Will plant another bunch tomorrow. Today was the Dakota Pearls. Tomorrow the russets, and the day after some supermarket leftovers that sprouted.

I have 3 rectangular planters half full of soil, that I will add some of the mushroom compost to about 3/4 inch from the top. I’ll be planting leaf lettuce, baby romaine lettuce, and spinach in those.

I didn't get a chance to ask the wasp what kind it was, an effective pollinator or not. I was surprised to see it stay with the plant going from flower to flower. There are more buds on the tree that I suppose will open into more flowers. I will be amazed if that dwarf tree actually grows a Mandarin orange. It's possible that was a bee and not a wasp but I haven't been aware there are bees out there.

There are a zillion small and large bees and wasps in front of the house on Azalea bushes on both sides of my front door. There are tons of flowers on those large mature bushes.

I’m guessing then that pollination should not be a problem for your plants.

“My jeweler friend is on Frazier.”

What is name of jewelry store. I have several rings that need guards on them to reduce them in size. I also have other work that needs done on pieces that are so expensive, I don’t trust most jewelry shops to keep those overnight or for a few days. Would you trust your jeweler friend with very expensive pieces?

Hi!
I went into town today and picked up two Cochlans(tm) magnesium fire starters. They look a lot like the one in your photograph. Found them in the sporting goods store. I can hardly wait to try one out, next controlled burn. Thank you so much for the tip.

I swear by 'em. You can tell from the discoloration that I've been carrying that one in the photo for quite a while, like 20 years or more.
