Stop using Microsoft's IE browser until bug is fixed, US warns

In a rare move that highlights the severity of the security hole in one of the Web's most popular browsers, the Homeland Security Department's Computer Emergency Readiness Team says to stop using Internet Explorer until Microsoft can fix it.

Security firm FireEye said that it is currently being used to attack financial and defense organizations in the US via Internet Explorer 9, 10, and 11. Those versions of the browser run on Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8, although the exploit is present in Internet Explorer 6 and above.

I remember once upon a time needed four wheel drive to negotiate a climb to a place had rented for fun. The fun was away from everything and was designed to be out in the middle of nowhere. I negotiated the climb and arrived out in the middle of nowhere, then the power went out. Spent five hours up and watching with protection drawn. Guess it was a gutless moment.

Maybe MS wanted to scare everybody away from XP and onto Win8 once and for all, but they overshot their target, and now it’s backfiring as people look for non-Microsoft solutions.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find IE’s interface a bit obscure compared to Firefox or Chrome?

Yes, I got rid of Firefox and am using IE and it sucks beyond believe.

* Every time I open it and every other webpage I open, a pop will come up asking me to manage Add-Ons. I once clicked on and managed my addons hoping it would go away forever but noooooo, 2 websites later it's back and it keeps coming back. For the love of God - Stop already.

* A pop up telling me every time you blocked a pop up kind of ruins the point of having a pop up blocker.

* Stop asking me if I want IE to remember a password, if it's not going to actually remember it.

* Certain ad/script heavy sites can not be opened without IE crashing like WSJ, Forbes, Wash. Times, Huff Post (No big loss)

I haven’t used Internet Explorer as my default browser in years. My default browser is Google Chrome (now at Version 34.0).

Try Palemoon. It's Mozilla based like Firefox but doesn't fire its CEO's.

No affiliation to FF, apparently.

Reminds me of a joke back in the 90’s, before Windows 95 came out.

Bill and Melinda were divorcing. Judge asked Melinda why and she said that even though they had been married for several years, the marriage hadn’t yet been consummated.

When the judge asked how that was possible, Melinda said “all he does is stand at the foot of the bed and tell me how good it’s going to be.”
