Our Maine Coon when I lived in the UK used to do that. Miss him, terribly.

Had a kitty named Abbott who would do something he knew was forbidden when he want us up and moving. We had a bowl with silk flowers which stems were buried in marbles in a big bowl. Abbot would get up on the dresser and put his paw into the marbles and jingle them around until we shouted at him to leave the silk flowers alone. He was fond of sneaking a silk flower to chew on occasionally, so he apparently knew the threat to get one would get our attention.

One cat I had LOVED water. Especially toilet water so I had to keep it down. But he would raid the dog bowl and then jump on me.

Then another cat, once she caught a gopher and dropped it on the bed, alive. And another time she caught a 3 foot gopher snake that had wrapped around her head. She was most generous in the morning. Like bringing me breakfast. Needless to say it wasn’t cute.

I once lived with the Einstein of cat-waking, who used all of those techniques...plus a few more, including the Good Morning Head Leap. Nothing could stop her if she wanted me awake. In defense I’d wrap myself mummy-like in sheets and blankets, but she’d always find a way to snake a paw in and get me in the most painful spot - a single sharp claw just inside a nostril will wake one faster than you can imagine!
