Wouldn’t it be cheaper just to buy some pontoons for the planes?

Let the Chinese worry about that when they are running CA. It is certain CA won’t last 200 years under its present management.

That’s why the Spruce Goose was built. So that LAX could remain open even after the oceans rose. Howard Hughes - patriot and visionary.

What makes him think we will still need airports in another century. A century ago no one had any idea of air travel on the scale we have now.

over the next couple of hundred years, sea levels could rise up to four feet

So, raise the sales tax rate to 15% right now, even though "up to" includes the number zero, and nothing may happen.

Who's to say that we will still be using airports in two hundred years, anyway?

Have at it Kalifornia. Why not just shut it down and insist the only way into Kalifornia is via high speed rail, which as a state you seem to be ecstatic over.

The San Onofre nuclear power plant has been decommissioned and if a central repository for nuclear waste is ever established the spent fuel will be move off site as well, so I don't know why this is being used as an example.

" over the next couple of hundred years, sea levels could rise up to four feet and that will affect the airports in Los Angeles and San Francisco"

Yeah, LAX will still be viable over the "next couple of hundred years".

Well lets see, we still have the Burbank airport, Long Beach airport, and of course the two large International airports in Ontario and Orange County. Why all the panic?

The operative word is could.

When did could become a scientific determiner for anything?

The moon could explode in a hundred years and spread green cheese all over Planet Earth. It probably won't, but it could.

Science used to be more reputable. Every thing was fine as long as the concensus of scientists knew the world was flat. [/s]
