MEMPHIS, June 3 (UPI) --Employees at a cotton gin in Memphis have filed a federal discrimination complaint against their supervisor after he was caught on tape making racist comments and trying to enforce segregation.
Antonio Harris and Marrio Mangrum allege a supervisor still employed by the Atkinson Cotton Warehouse called them "monkeys" and refused to let non-white employees use the microwave or water fountain. After what he described as months of stomaching a climate of casual racism, Harris used his phone to record an attempt to use the drinking fountain.

Live in the Deep South for a while (at least more than two years) and you will have more empathy for the attitudes of this fellow.

“The supervisor goes on to defend his bigotry, saying, “Back then, nobody thought anything about it. Now everybody is made to where to think it’s bad.”

In the South we call that guy “ignernt”

You know this may be a way states deal with capital punishment if the “pro-lifer’s” keep getting the lethal injection drugs banned.

The tape, if genuine, is very clear as to the intent of the supervisor.

I bet the employees win their EEOC lawsuit.

I’m sure MSNBC has already confirmed this a$$hat is a “Tea Party Supporter”.

They haven’t yet mentioned his political leanings. That could also mean he voted for Obama. Wouldn’t that be fun?

I wonder if the firm is named after Edward Atkinson (1827-1905), who wrote a book entitled Cheap Cotton by Free Labor.

Are you suggesting this guy should be "Post Birth Aborted"? Abortion is still legal.

Amazing that, not so long ago, an isolated incident at a Tennessee cotton gin wouldn’t have even made the local paper, let alone the UPI wire!

Cannot watch the tape at work. Do live in Memphis and have seen a number of trumped up suits in the past. I thought this might be another.

In the same city a black city council member who went on a racist rant towards hispanics...no protests or lawsuits since she advocated discriminating against them in city contracts.

So, if all this guy did was talk bs...shrugs.

All these danged personal opinions, even threats. More excuses for yet more expansive federal government enforcement and power right? Not right.

Regardless of the Fabian-Socialist Progressive SCOTUS decisions of the 20th century, the Constitution actually gives the federal government only ONE type of specific power along these lines. The 14th Amendment forbids state segregation laws. THAT IS IT. (This was confirmed by the Slaughterhouse cases in the 1870's).

20th century SCOTUS decisions and Civil Rights Acts notwithstanding, the federal government has no legitimate constitutional power to interfere with any individual or company in their right to discriminate (choose) or force integration on the state or individual level.

Everyone has the God-given right, protected by the Constitution, to personal opinions and discrimination. Threats are a states issue.

The supervisor just bought himself a spot on the unemployment line. His supervisors wont be very pleased to be paying fines and settlements.

Work in Memphis for a little while and see how ones attitude toward blacks becomes. After spending a night during race riots there and living there I can honestly say that I've had more trouble with racist blacks there than anywhere else in the country. When I was in the USAF it was the Memphis originated blacks that caused trouble at the USAF bases. It is unbelievable.

It’s hard to stop this kind of thing because of the thousand cries of “wolf”. When everything is racism, nothing is racism.
