Before there was country music, there were hillbilly singers. But this was before “Hee Haw” and one of my all time favorite shows, “The Beverly Hillbillies.”

I’ve patterned my life after the teachings of Jethro Bodine.

It looks to me like the information in the Nimitz diary on Japanese fleet movements had to come from JN25 decrypts.

Wherever the info came from, the oiler group that departed Tawi Tawi for Surigao Straits yesterday could be in for an exciting trip.

I doubt that captured papers, POW interrogation and intercepted clear channel communications can explain that enumerated list attributed to intelligence.

The plan for D-Day, known as the Neptune Monograph, was distributed on a need-to-know basis. The copy shown at the link was given to the tides forecaster for D-Day, who went on to a career as a geology professor.

The U-505 story is a great one. Seeing it has been the highlight of my visits to the Museum of Science and Industry.

Daniell must have been a buddy of Walter Duranty. Those lovable Sov’s wouldn’t throw an iron curtain across Europe, now would they?

I tried looking him up. His wife Tania Long was also a journalist, half Russian half British. There was a lot more on line about her than him, and I didn’t see any overt communist links on her part.

Not discounting it, though.
