Woman Sues Hospital for Posting STD Results on Facebook
Yahoo ^ | Jun 5, 2014 | Elise Solé

Imagine that someone broadcast your very personal secret on Facebook. Unfortunately for one Ohio woman, that’s exactly what happened when several hospital employees leaked her medical records that revealed she had an STD to the social networking site. She’s now suing the hospital for more than $25,000 in damages.

Back in September, the woman, who remains anonymous and lives in the town of Winton Hills, was being treated for Syphilis at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Shortly after, hospital employees snapped a photo of her records, including her name and diagnosis, and posted it to the Facebook page “Team No Hoes,” prompting commenters to call the woman a “hoe” and a “slut.”

Local news affiliate WLWT reports that, on Tuesday, the woman filed a lawsuit in Hamilton County against the medical center; a female employee named Ryan Rawls; an unnamed female employee believed to be a nurse; and the nurse’s ex-boyfriend, Raphael Bradley (who doesn’t work at the hospital). According to the woman’s attorney Mike Allen the release of the medical records violates state and federal laws.

Doesn’t matter. You should not under any circumstances put private medical info on the internet for all to see. Hope the ho-bag in question takes them to the cleaners.

Yes, the devil is in the details.
If it is as she says, she should wind up owning the hospital.

Haha! The “town of Winton hills. . . “

Winton Hills is Cincinnati’s version of the Flatlands. Probably half of the residents have been to prison and the other half have been shot. The “victim” and her disorderly acquaintances would ordinarily just be shooting each other. Her attorney was the DA who got fired for masturbating himself in front of a female supervisee in his office.

Get out the popcorn.

Yup. Doesn't matter if she is a hoe and a slut. Her records are still private.

Hey..why would you call her a ho?
You can get syphilis without sex. Yeah, you can...here is Web MD info:

WEB MD
“Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. If it’s not treated by a doctor, it can get worse over time and cause serious health problems.

The infection can be active at times and not active at other times. When the infection is active, you have symptoms. When it’s not active, you don’t have symptoms, even though you still have syphilis. But even when you don’t have symptoms, you can pass syphilis to others.

You don’t have to have sexual intercourse to get syphilis. Just being in close contact with an infected person’s genitals, mouth, or rectum is enough to expose you to the infection.

Bacteria cause syphilis. They usually enter the body through the tissues that line the throat, nose, rectum, and vagina. A person with syphilis who has a sore or a rash can pass the infection to others. An infected pregnant woman can also pass syphilis to her baby.”

Note it says “MOUTH”, that could be kissing...swapping saliva. HO’s arent’t the only ones who kiss others.

I don’t know how she got this STD.... with or without sex, but I do know the personnel who leaked it should have to personally pay the court ordered settlement...what a bunch of jerks. Now her family is calling her names...unbelievable the ignorance in this country.

Syphilis is not curable after a certain point, it can eventually cause death if never treated....it is making a come back...so be careful who you are kissing, having sex with, and it needs to be treated by a doctor.

I taught STDs in my classes of Criminal Justice. Some STDs can be caught in other ways without sex...BE CAREFUL.

In THE AGE OF OBAMACARE information is not safe anymore...ALL OF YOUR RECORDS ARE NOW AVAILABLE TO ANYONE who works in the Health Care field...MENTAL, PHYSICAL, SPORTS RELATED, it’s all on the same database.

Doesn’t excuse.

But, the govt has more access to your medical records than hospital employees do.

There is no monetary damage, so a lawsuit makes little sense. The Med Center has deep pockets and $25K is a pittance, so that’s what that’s about.

It is a felony to do this so the lack of mention of charges in this article is puzzling.

I know...I just added you since you were one of the three commenting and I wanted to pass on the WEB MD info, the one who did knows who they are. Everyone needs to educate themselves on STDs and how you get each one.

Sure maybe the person is married now and has no need (or so they think) to look it up but if a spouse cheats, or dies and the person wants to date or find romance later...well look out, just kissing can get you one of the most serious of STDs... Some things you can get off of public toilets.

AND think about parasites...what if the person has a lot of those, that exposure could be a problem too. If you have dogs or cats, you should do a parasite cleanse twice a year. Research that...it explains some illnesses.

I’m just bringing attention to some things, because we don’t get too many posts regarding STDs, it’s an opportunity to educate.

True, and even governmental employees have become lax in observing the laws lately.

I agree. Sounds like a personal tiff. But the employees violated HIPPA policies which were put in place fo a reason, this being one of those. The employees put their hospital on the hook for violating it. It’s gonna cost’em and I’m pretty sure someone’s losing their job.

My wife is the ER Director for our local hospital and she’s had to deal with this problem. The first person you run into at the ER has the ability to see your records as do many others. Should anybody know you they can share that info. About 2 years ago one of the girls working the front desk had a problem with another girl who was seeing here ex boyfriend and posted some info on her to Facebook. She was terminated and prosecuted for HIPPA violations. There’s allot of people have access to your medical records that shouldn’t.

She should sue.... the people who did it. The hospital is, in a sense, a victim of the crime as well. However, they’ll be held responsible for the criminal actions of their soon-to-be ex-employees (agents).

Ummm, yeah. There is no sex with that woman, Miss Lewinsky.

There is no monetary damage, so a lawsuit makes little sense.

There are lots of times when there are no monetary damages that a lawsuit makes sense. If you get assaulted but don't have to go to the hospital, you can have a civil suit. If you kill a dependent loved one of somebody, you probably saved them money, but are still liable for damages.

Monetary payments are compensation for damages that cannot be undone.

$25,000? After her attorney gets paid what’s she left with? She should be asking for a whole lot more....

She is probably asking compensation for unspecified damages. The dollar amount is just to make sure it gets in the right court.
