That may be right, but I didn’t think it would kill a plant in one day. What ever it was, it only took 24 hours to got from a healthy plant to dead.

I did a Google search and they said you can wrap the young stems with foil to keep the buggers at bay.

I have planted vining squash, and I am finding eggs=little brown dots- on my high up vines, too. Johnny said bacillus thuringensis in a syringe shot into the vines kills em. A guy on you tube picks the frass from the hole, and shoots insecticidal soap in them.

Right now, at the grocery stores there are beautiful zucchini. I want whatever those commercial growers are using to kill the plant killing SVB larvae.

Thanks for the ping. I have some pictures I will be posting later tonight or tomorrow depending on how things go, but I always look forward to reading the many comments from everyone even if I don’t always comment my self.

Beautiful! I garden in the far north coast of California and suffer the fools in Sacramento with you…

They are the infamous white cornish-cross broilers. It is all genetics, the old fashioned select & breed way. Not at all typical of other chickens at all.

Their growth chart is at the linked page. We didn’t use the ‘special vitamins’, and only fed unmedicated high protein feed. http://www.welphatchery.com/cornish_rock_care

Gardening in Phoenix in full stop. It’s been over 100 degrees for the past few weeks. People and pets are hibernating indoors in air-conditioned comfort. Plants are being watered regularly by the automatic drip system and some are still producing (zucchini, yardlong beans) and ripening(peppers, tomatoes), but no actual working in the garden happening.

We put up the 50% aluminet shade cloth a couple of weeks ago over the veggie plants. Now we just harvest what gets ripe and wait for the cooler weather in the fall.

If squirrels tried to get through the netting over the tomatoes, they may be dead in the netting or the netting is entirely gone into the trees with the squirrels and maybe they died there. Death to squirrels and birds.

“So, basically, you’ve eloped?”

Hmmm. Good question.

I’ve got some of that seed to plant here too. I don’t want to plant it until we have reliable good weather, and nights in the 60s instead of 50s.

I also have some ancient corn that is supposed to be drought hardy to try. The early corn is not doing so well this year.

Sounds like a soil borne bacteria or fungus.

I would be doing good to get out a few minutes to pick a tomato in those temps. Big baby when it gets too hot or too cold. Just call me goldielocks. LOL

Marcella, have you heard anything from Johnny? He said last week he was sick and not able to do much gardening. So far, I haven’t heard anything from him today.

Sounds like a soil borne bacteria or fungus.

That is more in line with my thinking.
