Oh, and heaven help the poor fool who should happen to walk past his house without permission.

And it doesn’t matter if he inside or out.

He lets them know in very clear and no uncertain terms, that that is NOT Acceptable!

Very good dog! He loves his job.

Personally, I can’t envision a purse puppy or a chihuahua bounding across a farmyard and enjoying the freedom......

My brother’s dog, that I am pup sitting with right now, is a great watch dog. She laid under the bed and watched my brother’s house get robbed.

He came home, found the door kicked in and thought Freckles had gotten out and run away.

About an hour later she came crawling out from under the bed..... but she saw the whole thing! :)

My dog loved chasing cars. After 7 years it killed him but he loved it.

Grandkids lost their Jack Russell farm dog yesterday. Had his throat ripped out by a raccoon while he was in their barn. Eight year old grandson found him, still barely alive, in the office where he usually slept.

Was a well loved dog by family, all the delivery people & vets. He started out as a house dog which didn't work but thrived when he became the farm dog.

Our russell/beagle looks just like your dog except one more brown spot aft.

Coons are the one thing I worry about here so I set a couple of live traps around when I see them around. I did rescue mine from a fair sized snapping turtle the other day.

“tummy rubs and fetch”

That reminds me of the article where the dog says “my favorite” about everything.

Can’t seem to find it right now.

The question is absurd: How can you tell is any dog is happier than Jay Carney?

Just because we can't tell doesn't mean it is or isn't. We can't tell if a dog has a migraine, or if they are so allergic to something inside or outside the house that their sinuses constantly bother them. I have always wondered how many pets go through things we humans would find intolerable.

My dog has all the romping area she wants in the country. All she really wants to do is hang around people and heads for the house in a beeline if anyone moves in any kind of direction toward it. FWIW, she’s a purebred golden retriever.

Oh I think animals are definitely tougher than humans, but I do think animals can feel depression. To what degree, I don’t know.

Did you see this recent story about this goat that was depressed when he was separated from his love?:

I have an Akita. They do not come on command. He loves his 2 one-hour hikes, on a leash.

He weighs over 100 pounds and spends 60% of his time asleep or just sitting and watching the world go by. He will spend 10-20 minutes running around his large enclosed pen and playing with his toys. He loves fetch, for about 15 minutes at a time. Every once in a while, he takes a quick 15-20 minute run after a bunny and is just as happy as can be to come home and lounge some more.

:-). Good doggies! Gotta secure their perimeter.

Yappy lap dogs are of no use.
