The investigation into how Bowe Bergdahl came to leave his base in Afghanistan is to start next week, after the Army appointed a General to lead the inquiry.

The two-star General, whose identity has not been released, will examine the events leading up to Bergdahl's departure from the base in June 2009.

Bergdahl, who was held as a prisoner-of-war by the Taliban for five years, finally returned to the U.S. in the early hours of Friday.

The Army has appointed an, as of now, unnamed Major General to lead the investigation in to Bergdahl's desertion. There was already an initial AR 15-6 investigation at the time of his desertion in 2009. This will either be an Article 32 hearing/investigation.

First they’ll have him examined by an Army corpseman.

I feel sorry for any serving office picked by this administration and given an assignment along with a pre-determined and incorrect finding. Will he fall heroically upon the sword of truth or live ignominiously with the fleas and lice of dishonor?

Let me guess, 2 years from now after the election they will report that initial reports and reprimand documents are missing.

I figure depending on the outcome he will be promoted to 3star or busted back to 1 star and loose a years pay and be forced to retire after it’s discovered that he 1) sexually harassed his staff, 2) was a big gambler, 3) failed to safeguard nuclear weapons under his command...

The name hasn’t been released to the public as of Saturday. I expect that it will be publically announced by the end of this week.

Any general officer appointed under Dear Leader, and that’s most of them, will find Bergdahl innocent of any wrong-doing. Mark it down.

Better to have a CSM with a few purple hearts and a couple silver stars sniff into it.

For a job this dirty, we should call one of those pesky Republicans. What’s Petraeus doing these days, other than pretending to be a Professor? Let’s get his wife to say he owes it to her (after being exposed as an adulterer) to go back and serve the nations needs for a year or so.

Completely ignorant of how the Army justice system works, but isn’t a general a bit “overkill” in terms of rank for this? Why not go with a major or a Lieutenant Colonel?

why didn’t they start their investigation 5 years ago when the desertion actually happened?

If the conclusions reached in this investigation meet the approval of a certain someone it could mean another star for the General..My guess is that an O-9’s pension is noticeably larger than is an O-8’s.

I,too,am woefully unfamiliar with the workings of the Army's top brass (having only reached the lofty rank of SP5) but it seems that a General would be easier to control, particularly when an extra star is waved in front of his/her face.
