From classic franks to artisan wieners with toppings like kimchi, here are the nation’s best hot dogs.

Senate Restaurant; Cincinnati

Chef Daniel Wright has received national accolades for his playful takes on pub food, including a regularly changing menu of hot dogs like the Croque Madame (Black Forest ham, poached egg, béchamel) and the Lindsey Lohan (goat cheese, caramelized onions, bacon, arugula and balsamic vinegar). senatepub.com

Thanks. I just bought some hot dogs for dinner tonight. Guess I’ll open a can of chilli beans.

Found this cheffy trick to serve juicy BBQ’ed franks.

TRICK: First boil them in hot water on stovetop.

Then simply grill-mark on outdoor grill——they’ll be nice and juicy nestled in those fresh buns.

I have no idea if they are still in business but I used to love the Coney Island in Downtown, Tulsa. That was back in the 70s.

Pinks? Pinks is a pure waste of time. Overpriced, sloppy, tasteless and always a long line. The red cabbage side has a spice in it that makes it almost inedible. Lastly, the counter people have such a strong accent you cannot understand them. Been there once, will never go back. Most of the people I talked to during my visit were visiting from out of town, just there for the tourist trap, then very disappointed with what they got. How these guys have stayed in business all these years is incredible.

Used to be a place called the Weiner Factory in the Valley on Ventura blvd. Best place in town bar none and a hundred fold better than pinks. Closed down as the property was sold. Their prices were reasonable and their Polish dogs were wonderful. Pinks? You have to be kidding. I think we have been here before on a much better thread.

GOOD sauerkraut (the all-day kind with celery seed, boiled with pork, perhaps a bit of apple) and French’s yellow mustard. MMMMmmmmmm.

There’s a little place that just opened in our town that “specializes” in hot dogs. I couldn’t wait to try their Sour Dog. How disappointing it was to find that they just opened a plain old can of the stuff and plopped it on. Even the pretzel roll didn’t help.
