My demeanor is fine, BBB. I have not insulted you or Utilizer. I pinged you to this to show you what trolls do, that’s all. . . There are dozens more where he comes from, some on payrolls to do it. But you decided to insult me again. Several other Freepers have reviewed that thread and find NOTHING impolite about my comments to Utilizer but a lot impolite about yours. I did not insult him or you. Quit being snarky. You are not the moderator. Give it a rest.

As I said previously, I think you are brave to post news about Mac in the face of those who will only respond in order to bash Macs or to promote their own favorite OS. I can sympathize if you sometimes get a little angry. It is a thankless task that you have taken on, but those of us who read your updates appreciate it.

The opposite of business is free.

Some folks are quite good at turning free into business. For instance, last year one Linux-powered outfit took in $55.4b and had $12.9b left after expenses (which did not include any needless Windows licenses).

I request that you never ping me again, I’ll do the same.

Try to have a nice life.

Thank you Defiant. . . I appreciate it. I always try to provide accurate honest information. Some still don't get it, though. ;^). I think they'd prefer to kill the messenger.

Software is not a concept. It is an implementation of a process. It is not an ideology. It is not political. It is not business. It is not economic.

It may be used in all of those concepts, but it is none of them.

Think a little clearer.

Hmmm. I’ve heard of LibreCAD but not tried it yet. Think I’ll download it this weekend if possible and have a look.

It just proves the point that most (not all) macophiles are condescending elitists. I am not of the opinion that simply because a machine draws pretty pictures it is the Master of the Universe, so that bothers a certain mindset. You can see the responses for yourself.

As an OS, I prefer Unix or Linux and am running Virtual32-OS now -but still still use Windows when necessary.

Unlike noted others, I do not go off on a rant about how much better everyone else would be if only they were not so stupid as to not use their Supremely Elite MacMachines. With a suitably sneering contempt of anyone who disagrees, of course.

So, that makes it obvious that I am not a "superior computer user".

Good for a laugh every time I think of that one! *snicker*

Don't ride a "superior car" either, now I think about it. Can't wait to hear all about that one next.

And you are right. He is what he is, that is why I consigned that one to the twitfilter long ago. I find that simply ignoring spittle-flying protesters is the best way to not waste a great deal of time with little results for it.

I also ignore liberals as well as that type -but I repeat myself...

It is liberalism/communism to think software is not a business and should be free.

Do you believe the same about property and concepts? Such as: there are no "free" lands because all the lands belong to the king (or in our case, the government)? Or how about if I invent a new method of doing something, kind of like when an inexpensive method of refining aluminum became available, the government should have the right to swoop in and claim it for itself?

I do not believe that freedom in software is a liberal, communist, or socialist position to take.

What's really funny is CodeToad has it totally bassackward.

Software is a product--subject tot he whims and desires/needs of its creator!!. If the creator thinks it should be free, then it should be free.

To think all software should not be free is just Big Government telling us what is best for us. THAT is liberalism/communism.

True. About the same as when a writer decides to write a free article or book and not demand payment for it. For instance; have you ever heard of the Baen Free Library? Some well-known authors have already contributed to it and I think both Baen Books and the several participating authors should be congratulated for it.

I took delivery of one of those no-name, generic tablets running Android ($40-50). Needs to charge, I will report back later.

"Hmmm. I’ve heard of LibreCAD but not tried it yet. Think I’ll download it this weekend if possible and have a look."

Good. I was against the GPL (General Public License) in Linux for a long time and did prefer NetBSD exclusively as an operating system (and Windows for some jobs in the past).

But I finally figured that if some of the software packages become very common and available with a GPL, why not use some of them to save money in more leisurely computer use (like Web browsing)? Commercial software that is unique enough can still be written with a BSD system and a more business-friendly license like this one.

BTW, it appears that we can do what we like with our .dxf files (output that does not include package code). You’ll probably find that the LibreCAD interface is also easy to use after having used AutoCAD.

For people using Linux and needing to work with DWG files (more common AutoCAD output), there’s DraftSight.

Appreciate the ping.

Some people just drink too much Mountain Dew to behave appropriately, I suppose.

I find it interesting that I never once disagreed with ‘he who lacks the skills to be a dentist’ - I merely commented upon how he acts when disagreeing with another FReeper.

It’s childish, really.

I do a great deal of computer consulting, I advise most of my clients to buy Windows 7 computers as they need Windows for their business. Some need a Mac due to the nature of their business.

I, personally, have a Windows laptop and a Mac - the Mac is my daily computer, but I run Windows 7 in it via Parallels. It’s the perfect setup for me as I can take it to a client and have either system operating and instruct them side by side.

The Windows laptop accompanies me to symposiums and is attached to a projector for a day or two. If someone has a presentation in Keynote, then I’ll attach my Mac to a projector and all is well.

I do find that the Mac zealots are horrifically biased and uninformed. Had a client ask me for assistance - she needed a new computer for her interior design business and her boyfriend said ‘you HAVE to get a Mac!’ - we discussed the pros and cons, I looked into the software that she used (I cannot remember the name or I would share it with you) and it specifically stated that it was not Mac compatible and specifically mentioned that it would not work in a virtual machine. So the Mac was out. The boyfriend did not believe me - or apparently the software manufacturer either. She’s with someone else now and has a very powerful tower computer we designed online at Costco.

Computers are tools - that’s all.

Again, thank you for your kind words. It’s always nice to have a reasoned exchange with some about tools, rather than having a tool call you a troll.

Cheers, and have a happy 4th of July! ;-)

Sounds good. I'll look into that when I manage to grab a copy of LibreCAD and check out its functionality, as well as seeing how well its saved files transfer to other CAD programs. As well as seeing how acceptable files created in other programs are to it in return.
