In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

canaille (kuh-NAYL, -NY) noun
The common people; the masses; riffraff.

how it sounds

Example sentence:
"The gang in the alley was not canaille; fine gentlemen from the court were raging here."
--Isak Dinesen; Last Tales; Random House; 1957.

Etymology:
From French canaille (villain, rabble), from Italian canaglia (pack of dogs, rabble), from cane (dog), from Latin canis (dog). Ultimately from the Indo-European root kwon- (dog), which is also the source of canine, chenille (from French chenille: caterpillar, literally, little dog), kennel, canary, hound, dachshund, corgi, cynic, and cynosure. Earliest documented use: 1676.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

That’s an HBO series!!!!

No, I didn’t watch it, but a lot of the reaction to the finale was pretty bad.

I know. I won’t pay HBO for any of their stuff and I do try to watch shows people are talking about to see why. It’s why I endured Breaking Bad, which I really didn’t like either. I’m listening to Cavuto now to find out why Freepers are screaming about him lately.

It’s a regular yellow cake with crumbs made from butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and some white sugar with powdered on top. I should have waited for it to cool before sprinkling so the confectioner’s sugar would stay dry and white. The recipe only uses white sugar but I like brown with it instead.

I heard on another Fox show last night that he got into it with Michelle Bachman over John Boehner’s lawsuit plans-maybe that is it?

It does sound like a good coffee cake-I use honey or raw brown sugar when I bake-it actually has a taste, and white sugar is barely a natural substance these days...

Unfortunately, canela-cinnamon-isn’t a favorite thing-even the smell of it makes me sneeze...

It's said to be good for stomach discomfort but it gives me heartburn so go figure.
I just read a comment on a favorite blog that cracked me up. Someone asked "Does Eric Holder looks like a black Yanni or is it just me?"

“gives me heartburn”

I’ve heard is good for indigestion, too, but I can’t get past the smell of it.

I never paid any attention to Yanni-who is he-some clothing designer?

Never heard of the guy-but if you gave him a little moustache I suppose Holder might resemble him a bit...

I grilled chicken legs for dinner yesterday and I have some left over-I skipped lunch, so I’m going to make a salad for dinner like the one I did last week-baby greens, tomato, avocado, onion, the sliced leftover chicken, anchovies, raw sliced zucchini, parmesan cheese and vinaigrette dressing...

It is humid and thunderstorms in the area, just like yesterday-hope we get some more rain. Midget girl is on the desk chair beside me-every time there is distant thunder, she scoots closer and puts her front paws on my leg-the two other cats are sleeping, and Husky girl just twitches her ears when she hears it-how did that collar work for your dog who hates thunder?

He has had various degrees of facial hair over time.
I haven't needed to use the collar since I got it. No thunderstorms, just rain showers.
The spouse had a homegrown salad last night of things he has grown in his garden: tomatoes, buttercrunch lettuce, Swiss chard, cucumbers, peas. He was so happy.
