Zoo kills neglected bear cub, will stuff it for children to learn 'nature can be cruel'

The Dahlholzli Zoo in the Swiss city of Bern has caused a public outcry by killing a healthy baby brown bear because it was being bullied by its father and neglected by its mother. The zoo has said it will stuff and display it to teach children that "nature can be cruel."

Details of the fate of the baby brown bear, known only as Cub 4, come on the heels of outrage over the killing by Denmark's Copenhagen Zoo of a young male giraffe named Marius and four lions.

But criticism of the zoo's actions has focused on the fact that the adult bears involved were hand-raised -- suggesting that their cubs could have been raised that way too.

Freaks. They hate all babies, not just unborn human ones.

And I bet that the zoo officials wouldn’t just want to “let nature take its course because nature can be cruel”, when they become ill — and the cub, giraffe and bears were NOT even ill.

It is normal to put down breeding stock that is past it’s breeding life or to avoid inbreeding. This is standard animal husbundry whether it’s at the zoo or the farm.

Trying to apply sanctity of human life standards to animals is the kind of stupid squeamishness and excessive emoting that results in actual cruelty to animals.

One zookeeper suggested that since in nature, a tigress is occupied by her cubs and caring for them in captivity keeps her from going stir-crazy, and, tiger cubs are a big money-making draw to the zoo, and, there is a large surplus of tigers in captivity, it would make sense to breed tigers, euthanize the cubs at a year or so, and start over. She knew it wouldn’t fly with the public.

Why not go for the full profit? Sell the coats to the fur trade, and the bones or whatever to the Chinese medicine trade.

Why is this so common?

“We had to kill Bambi to protect Bambi from Bambi.”

“We had to kill Bambi to protect Bambi from Bambi.”

Because we can kill Bambi humanely while nature will force Bambi to suffer.

Nature is careless.

why they can’t make arrangements with other zoos or - gasp -raise the cub on their own they’re ‘experts’,

it’s like sentient animals are just effing toasters to be tossed out when they aren’t useful to us. this whole disposable mentality of the left is sickening.

“...teach children that “nature can be cruel.”

Yeh, well, with that line of reasoning, they should kill and stuff the zoo officials to REALLY get the point across about the cruelty of nature.

You mean like raising pigs or cattle to adults and then slaughtering them for food?

FWIW, pigs are highly intelligent, probably smarter than dogs.
