Nome is used to rowdy residents, but some relatively new transplants are making a real nuisance of themselves -- although unlike the colorful characters of the early 20th century gold rush days, these visitors have four legs, not two.

Musk oxen are wandering into the city on the Seward Peninsula, and despite loud noises, water hoses and even a blow-up bear coated in ursine urine, they don't want to leave.

Is there a Farmer's Market in your neck of the woods? Prices are not much better, if Farmer's Market is available but can normally count on freshness from the food. I've had to tell the food to keep their paws off of Better Half numerous times.

Full agreement again, Bob. People hate those that are themselves. Being best, which I'm not, still makes people angry by being myself. I want to go philosophical and speak a word or two of truth but would then be more boring than am currently. Besides how could I ever defend those that are themselves? Most of us are not defendable including me. And then here comes the report of nuclear material being stolen in Iraq. What about that truck down in New Mexico ... wonder if we ever found that one? There are Farmer’s Markets in Matthews, Mint Hill, and Monroe, but it’s rare for us to get by them. There are also a couple of farm stands. I got a cantaloupe at one of them yesterday; it wasn’t any better than the HT ones, though. I think HT is buying locally.

I just pick them up and smell them, no matter where I’m buying.
