There is no rest from the labour of parenting - not even on the seventh day. Two parents in southern Germany spared the rod but did not quite spoil their child when they abandoned their 11-year-old in a car park so they could go to church.
Showing that love is not always patient or kind, the parents were led into temptation after a disagreement over visiting church on the day of the Lord.
They stopped in a car park on the road to Freiburg, in the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg, and left their son there on Sunday because he did not want to go to church.
"The child thought it was a joke but that proved to be the wrong assumption when the parents in fact drove off and left him behind in the car park," Freiburg police said in a statement on Sunday night.
Good Samaritan
A witness, thinking the parents had forgotten their son, called the police. Officers picked up the boy minutes later and brought him to a youth welfare centre in nearby Titisee-Neustadt.
The father was told about the location of the son around 11am but the parents did not pick him up until 6pm.
Police are now investigating what exactly happened.
The letter of the law
Neglecting parental duties can be a criminal offence and prosecutors signalled there would be no forgiveness for the parents.
"When a child is left behind on a national road, it seems fairly clear that there is a violation of the duty of care," said chief prosecutor Michael Mächter.
If the two are found to have grossly neglected their duties, they could face a fine or up to three years behind bars.
The Parable of the Good Samaritan has the definitive finding on this issue: The Priest and the Levite wouldn’t stop to offer assistance to the Robbery Victim because, if he were possibly dead, they would be ritually contaminated and would have to undergo a number of days’ ritual purification before they could be permitted to perform religious rituals at the heart of their livelihood. It was a foreigner and an heretic, the Samaritan, who exercised the True Virtue of Religion, rendering fidelity to God by caring for his neighbor as for himself. That is the conflict with “The Law” mentioned so much by St. Paul, the New Law of of Love introduced by Jesus to complete the Old Law.
Don’t care what the reason is. You don’t leave your child of that age in the car.
I don’t think they left him in a car. I think they drove off without him. ??
They left him in a car park, not a parked car.
You can’t even drop your kids off at a park for an hour without becoming national news? The kid was 11, not an infant.

Maybe the kid needs Blondestar. http://youtube.com/watch?v=qrt2q6Mpeyc
If losing his parents fpr three years doesn’t teach him the value of going to church nothing will!
