It was pouring down rain when I got home yesterday afternoon

Will you ever get to finish your pond work?

I played in the pond two evenings after work last week. That was enough time to remove almost all of the loose dirt that I had staged before Nanner’s water pump blew up.

Probably won’t make any progress on it this week. I’m headed back to Indiana on Thursday for the last three nights of sprint week.

I made a trip to Jeff City today, so that’s about all I got done. Meanwhile back at our little acre, hubby said we got 4 inches.

We finally got some black berries before the critters and birds. Maybe a quart, so I’ll be making some cobbler or jelly.

We had too many summer squash, so gave some to the neighbor. She tried to grow some last year, and didn’t get any. We have some cukes and beets. None are enough for a batch. More like a quart or two.

Hubby finally got a tomato that had turned kinda orange, so I told him better to pick it and bring it in before the critters get it. It’ll ripen indoors just fine.

His sweet corn is almost ready, just needs to fill out a bit more. I went ahead and cooked the ones he brought in and the flavor is great.

One of my corn patches is ready, and another has about a month to go. I didn’t bet much, because the seeds just wouldn’t germinate. Bad Seed I think.

Thumbs up! This is a great time of the year, when all the hard work starts to pay off, and all our meals have something really fresh that we have just picked.LOL

Picture Snoopy doing a little dance and that’s what I feel like this time of year.

No. I have seen the Indian multi colored, but nothing like this.

I haven’t done as much either. Lack of energy, and feeling that if we had another hot summer, it wouldn’t pay off anyway. So of course, we are having cooler weather and more rain during the dry season. KNOCK ON WOOD!

Sorry about the pears. I like pears especially canned ones.

It’s amazing, we had a pear tree in our back yard when I was younger, and no one ever did anything with them, and the yellow jackets used to just love them.

So I always stayed away from them, because I was scared of the yellow jackets. I don’t know why my parents didn’t pick any, I guess they just didn’t like them.

I know, that is the prettiest corn I've ever seen. It's flint corn, so you can grind it or pop it.

I think it takes about a hundred days. I might plant some on Thursday when it comes just to see what happens, and hope we don't have any early freezes.

We set live traps for possums, then haul them off to the country.

Lol, yeah, right up there with "and I will be giving beautiful 'popcorn' kernels to folks for Christmas"..I have no idea how long corn has to dry to be "popcorn".

Picked some cukes and eggplant yesterday evening.
Sweet corn is close, but not quite.

The japanese beetles have infested my pole beans. I’d been able to squish em fast enough to keep the damage to a minimum, but they took advantage of my being gone for three days and moved in for the kill. I really don’t like spraying while things are in bloom, but this time I didn’t have much choice so I gave them a nice bath in Sevin dust. They really like to munch on my contorted filbert tree, and up until this past weekend had pretty much stuck to that and left the garden alone. I guess I should have sprayed them before they moved. I’ll know better next time.

My pear tree still has a lot of pears, but lost about 1/3 of the total crop. Now I have to keep the critters off so they don’t eat them.

Problem is, they take a bite or two out of one, and go to the next one. The deer eat the leftovers that hit the ground.

Peaches are just starting to get soft. I picked a few and they smell so good.

Yeh, we are finding some cukes that are nibbled through almost all the way in the center, then the darlin’ rabbits move on to the next. (sigh)

I’m gonna have to check daughter’s peaches to see if they have any fruit. Haven’t been over there for a while.

We use those Japenese beetle traps. Hubby takes care of them, so I really don’t know much about them.
