Did a Russian soldier's trigger finger blow MH17 out of the sky. US says separatists would struggle

U.S. Ambassador Samantha Power told an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council on Friday that the United States cannot rule out that Russia helped in the launch of the surface-to-air missile that shot down a Malaysia Airlines jet over eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board.

Power said the U.S. believes the plane was likely downed by an SA-11 missile fired from an area in eastern Ukraine controlled by pro-Russian separatists. She said Russia has provided SA-11s and other heavy weapons to the separatists.

Britain's U.N. Ambassador Mark Lyall Grant, who called the emergency meeting, was more emphatic on assessing blame for the crash. And Ms Power it is likely that Russian military personnel were at the controls of the missile battery that downed the airliner.

New intelligence seen by the New York Times, suggest a surface to air missile on Monday shot down a Ukranian military plane from inside Russia’s borders – just days before MH17 was blown apart. It is possible that the same battery was then moved into Ukraine, where it shot down the Malaysian airlines jet liner.

One of Putin’s positives is that he is a Russian nationalist. Compare this to the anti America Obama and even George Bush with his open borders and immigration amnesty attempts

I'm getting real tired of hearing Putin apologists claim that he acts in Russia's interests.

How was it in Russia's interests to savagely murder hundreds of innocent people?

Because he thought they were Ukrainians, is that it?

How is it in Russia's interests to slaughter Ukrainians and make Ukraine into a mortal enemy of Russia locked in fratricidal war with no end in sight?

Putin has disgraced Russia and made Russia into terrorist sponsoring pariah rogue state that the entire world condemns!

Putin has humiliated the Russian people and blackened the name of Russia for all time!

One of Putin’s positives is that he is a Russian nationalist.

Positive for whom? Being a nationalist is not necessarily a positive. Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Castro, Chavez, etc. were also nationalists. It depends on how this nationalism manifests itself that determines whether it is positive or not.

In Putin's case, I don't see it as a positive. Ask the people of Georgia and Ukraine about his nationalism. Check with the Baltic nations to see how they view Putin and his desire to protect "ethnic Russians."

And you are engaging in indefensible ignorance. Creating vast theories and frameworks from limited statements.

I’m not sure if you understand the whole idea of nationalism or not. Nationalists from different nations do not get along with each other. There is not some kind of nationalist international that promotes nationalism around the world. Commies are the ones who believe in international principles which transcend national boundaries. Nationalists don’t. What a foreign nationalist believes in has nothing to do with American patriotism. We who love America and the principles that America was founded upon see nothing positive at all about Putin promoting his form of anti-American imperialist neo-Soviet nationalism which grinds freedom under it’s jackbooted heel.

LOL. Coming from someone doesn’t know the meaning of the word admire, that is rich. Your ignorance is only surpassed by your arrogance. Time to get out of your mother’s basement and introduce yourself to the real world rather than the fantasy world you seem to inhabit/

I don’t like Putin or any other tyrant and i oppose them at very opportunity. I do however suffer envy that at least he is a Russian who represents Russia. More than can be said of Obama. But you hang vast frameworks on a limited statement in your foolish pressing of your pet project on this thread. Your project is to discredit Putin to those here who pump him up. Fine. But leave me out of it. You are pounding away at the wrong target because i agree with your position where Putin is concerned. But your Ready, Fire, Aim approach is just stupid. Put your outrage where it belongs shooter.

Envy whom? The Russians? Putin is a corrupt leader who has stolen tens of millions of dollars from his people and deposited them in offshore accounts. His leadership hurts Russians and deprives them of their liberties and freedom of expression. And now they will be facing more sanctions.

Your project is to discredit Putin to those here who pump him up. Fine. But leave me out of it.

Putin discredits himself. You chose the word "admire" thereby including yourself with those who "pump him up."

But your Ready, Fire, Aim approach is just stupid. Put your outrage where it belongs shooter.

Why should you care about "my outrage?" You don't care what I think or say. --or at least that is what you wrote.

~If elections were fair, how did Putin get 99.48% of the vote with 99.5% turnout in Chechnya in 2011?
That’s impossible, unless Chechens really do love Putin after all.~

I agree with you on this one. It was quite ugly in Chechnya but Chechnya is not all of Russia.

So you think Putin cheated on a massive scale in Chechnya, but was clean as a whistle in the rest of Russia? Let’s be real here, why would he cheat there and conduct a fair election everywhere else?

Reality check. Putin got 85%+ in Dagestan as well, and every place where there were no independent monitor drive Putin won on a massive scale.

To be honest, Putin probably would have won a fair election anyways, although by an embarrassingly more lacklustre result than what Putin supposedly won the election by. But only because he has successfully and systematically eliminated any real challengers to his rule.

I mean, who else are Russians going to vote for? That old Communist? The other guys who vote in lockstep with Putin? Ironically the old commie is probably more independent than the so called liberals that Putin runs against.

Might as well keep the man who stopped the boat leaking (Putin) than to throw him overboard for his many crimes and risk losing the fight or much, much, worse; a return to the instability of the 1990’s.

"I’m surprised there are so many Russia apologists around here."

Lately, I believe many Americans perceive the Russians as being more 'American' than most Americans are. This is especially true when comparing heads of state.

Putin seems to be a real 'man'. We're stuck with a metrosexual socialist.....
