Which TV series should have gone on?

Posted on 07/19/2014 8:28:11 PM PDT by MNDude

Most TV series "jump the shark" or get bad long before they end. But there's always a few that you wish that went on at least another season. Which TV series or program(s) do you wish hadn't ended when it did but continued on at least another year?

OH gosh, I’ve got one for sure. “The Defenders” I think it was called, it was recent, maybe 2 years ago, and it starred Jim Belushi and Jerry O’Connell as defense attys in Las Vegas.

It was great. Jim Belushi’s finest moment. It was funny, but had some serious parts. I loved it because it got very much into the inner workings of a law firm.

Like the episode where a husband and wife were suspected of murder and they each wanted to hire one of the Defenders. The Judge said OK, but you’ve got to disband your firm to do this, otherwise there’s a conflict of interest. So the one guy had to go rent some dreadful, sleazy office.

Hubby and I both really enjoyed it, that show was never given the chance it deserved.

The Wonder Years, yes I know the Kevin and gang were getting old.

Freaks and Geeks, started a lot of careers.

NYPD Blues, had a nice run, but Dennis Franz was a gem.

The Rockford Files, RIP James

“I loved Psych....probably because I’m silly.”

Love it too! Guess I’m silly too, but what I really love, love, love about that show is how they make fun of that OTHER show (gosh darn I can’t think of the name) which basically stole the whole idea from Psych and just gave it a tragic angle.

That cracks me up that they do that, I’ve never really seen anything like it on a scripted, fictional, show.

sorry about the name being wrong, that’s what happens when typing late at night. I should have checked my hard drive where I have all the episodes stored to get the right name.

Star Trek Enterprise season 3 was very good, just about the entire year was a long sequential story. Unfortunately season 4 was a total disaster. Season 3 was so good season 4 was fated to fail.

“There aren’t too many “new” themes to the human experience.”

It is said that there are only 7 plotlines.

I don’t know what they all are. One I know is “boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl”. But I guess that’s considered very sexist and heternormative now.

“Deadwood”

Oh yes, also Milch’s next one: Luck, about horseracing.

He was really robbed by HBO THRICE. Including John from Cincinatti, which had one of the greatest openings of all time. You can watch it on youtube.

“Kolchak: The Night Stalker”

Another good one. Darrin McGavin, yes? In a white suit, crumpled but styling.

Loved it!

Highway Patrol - done in it’s ORIGINAL style, NOT updated!

With Broderick Crawford? Notice that as an LA detective he's always seen driving on dirt roads which were the studio back lots because he lost his license to drive for DUI.

Well, based on what came later “”StarTrek” should’ve gone more than three seasons.

The 1970 Brit sci fi series "UFO". There was a heavy cold war element to the alien threat combined with some psyops/mind-gaming similar to "The Prisoner" that, despite some of the cheesy "Thunderbirds" special effects, kept the show grounded in adult story telling.

“The Unit” was very well done.”

That was a great show. I’m going to watch it all someday.

We never watched it because it was up against something else we watched, but then I used to watch it sometime in summer re-runs.

I remember the story arc with Rebecca Pigeon (David Mamet’s wife in real life) being very duplicitous and evil.

She was compelling, like Angela Lansbury in “The Manchurian Candidate”. So, so, so BAD and yet, you could not take your eyes off her. I hope she won an Emmy for that, she really deserved to.

“And Stuart Margolin was perfect as Rockford’s weasely friend.”

Angel, right? And who was the black guy who called him “Rockfish”?

You probably saw James Garner died today, I’m just so sad about that.
