Which TV series should have gone on?

Posted on 07/19/2014 8:28:11 PM PDT by MNDude

Most TV series "jump the shark" or get bad long before they end. But there's always a few that you wish that went on at least another season. Which TV series or program(s) do you wish hadn't ended when it did but continued on at least another year?

Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis... even after long runs.

Terminator, The Sarah Connor Chronicles... It was just hitting it’s stride!

Sarah Connor Chronicles! I forgot about that one!

The network complained that the show was too “cerebral” and buried it on Friday night in order to kill it (IIRC).

The finale where they jumped through time was terrific.

Unfortunately, a lot of shows reach their best point just as they die (example: Dollhouse)

The Equalizer.

Edward Woodward was going up for an Emmy the year they dropped the show.

Star Trek, the Wagon Train of space.

Wish Wagon Train went a few more seasons.

I know. I didn’t phrase that well. I meant the original show had more than 3 seasons worth in it and should have been on longer, but was cancelled too soon. If they had done ratings by age demographics back then it would have too. It was huge in the under 30 demographic.

I bought Sledge Hammer DVDs a few years back because of the fond memories I had of the show. My memory version of the show was better than what I saw on those DVDs. But then the poor quality of the DVDs may have had something to do with my lack of enjoyment.

80s shows tend to look a bit dated when watched today.

FYI. Justified last season coming up early 2015

Justified is going to end too soon. It would be nice if they took it to the big screen. It could make for some really good movies. I swear, Timothy Olyphant channels Clint Eastwood with some of the things he does in that show.

Ditto on Ren and Stimpy. “Old man winter was knocking on the door and old man Lady Luck had juuuust about run out”

Ditto also on Barney Miller. Great in its day and now a time capsule of what the seventies were really like. It should be mandatory in school today.

plus:
Black Adder
Mr Bean
Rin Tin Tin
Lassie
Mutual of Omahas Wild Kingdom
and I loved Deep Space Nine (especially the opening with theme song)

Olyphant caught my attention In Deadwood. On the first show he shot the guy at the table. It was very Dirty Harryesque. Did a light part in Damages, and knocks a home run every week on Justified.

Elmore Leonard died a few months ago, but he was not a main writer for the series. The dialogue is amazing and it’s as close to a modern day western as you can get.

I also like the guy who plays Boyd Crowder, Walton Goggins. He was great in The Shield. And the head marshall is a natural.

Great stuff.

Star Trek on the other hand could have done without its reincarnation as Deep Sleep 9 or Voyager.

I didn't like either of those when they started, but I think they got much better.

In DS9 Sisco started as a wimpy character, his son was boring, and the Bjorans were just plain annoying. Quark was a good character, but he couldn't carry the show. About 3 years in they had Sisco shave his head and act more Hawk from Spencer for Hire, brought in Klingons, Romunlans, Jem Hadar and galactic war, and gave them the Defiant, and it got much, much better. Gol Ducat developed into a pretty good character too. Even Jake was more watchable with Quark's nephew as his buddy. It ended up being my second favorite of the Star Trek series after the original.

As for Voyager, the addition of Seven of Nine made the show much more watchable, in more ways than one.

Totally agree. Never will forgive Fox for canceling Firefly. I didn’t even watch the TV show when it first came out. My son dragged me to see Serenity, the movie, because he thought I would like it. The way they advertised it using the young girl named River’s acrobatics, made me think my son did not know me at all. But he was certain I would like it.

He was right. I loved the movie so much I made him get me Firefly, the TV show, on DVD for Christmas. But, I was glad I saw the movie first. If I had watched Serenity after falling in love will all the wonderful characters in Firefly, I would have been devastated.

Enterprise was starting to get more interesting. I would have liked to see another season.
