Could Israeli high-tech tackle Hamas’ terror tunnels?

Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system has been highly visible protecting its airspace during Operation Protective Edge. But exactly how the military is locating Hamas’ labyrinth of underground tunnels between Israel and Gaza – and whether it is using new technologies to uncover them – remains a closely held secret.

“Due to security concerns, we cannot specify the tools or methods used to uncover these tunnels. Exposing our capabilities would hamper our ability to address this lethal threat,” an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokeswoman said in an email to FoxNews.com. “However, using precise intelligence combined with specialized units which use robots and advanced cameras, the IDF has had vast success in toppling the Hamas tunnel network.”

The scale and sophistication of the Hamas tunnels present a massive challenge to the IDF, which launched Operation Protective Edge on July 8 in response to an escalation in rocket attacks by Hamas. The ground phase began on July 17.

Ernest,
From Wiki;

“Sounding radars: these are low-frequency (normally, HF - 3 to 30 MHz - or lower) ground-penetrating Radars, used to acquire data about the planet sub-surface structure. Their low operating frequency allow them to penetrate hundreds of meters, or even kilometers, below the surface. Synthetic aperture techniques are normally exploited to reduce the ground footprint (due to the low operating frequency and the small allowable antenna dimensions, the beam is very wide) and, thus, the unwanted echo from other surface objects.”

“”loose lips ink ships”

In this case? I don’t know. GPR is pretty well known due to the archeological discoveries made using it. And many of those discoveries were in that part of the world.

Since these tunnels were part of a massive terror attack, WHY did Hamas keep shooting missiles at Israel knowing full well they would not sit back and take it. They totally blew their cover. Makes no sense.

Now the leaders of Hamas live in million dollar homes, some in Gaza and the money flows thru Qatar. The real leaders are of course, playing golf or at the beach, so are they planning something else?

I’m probably having a sugar crash and getting loopy, but the initial question still stands.

Naw, the national reconnaissance office in the CIA has a whole department monitoring satellite images of suspect areas where the muzzies dump their dirt from the excavation.
