'Some say that it is a miracle, while others are calling it a curse': Tunisian journalist

Tunisians are enjoying escaping the heat of summer by swimming in the mystery lake. (Pic @ Instagram) Nobody knows how, when or why… yet. The fact is, a lake has mysteriously appeared suddenly in the middle of Tunisian desert.

No scientific explanation has been forthcoming as yet for for ‘Gafsa Beach’, discovered by shepherds three weeks ago.

Authorities have issued a warning, according to a report in the Independent, that the water, which started off a crystalline blue and has since turned a murky green with algae, could be carcinogenic.

However, a YouTube video uploaded shows Tunisians enjoying a swim in the new lake, escaping the current 40 degrees celsius heat.

"Some say that it is a miracle, while others are calling it a curse," journalist Lakhdar Souid told France 24.

Some geologists believe seismic activity may have caused groundwater to rise to the surface by disrupting the water table.

Observers estimate the water covers an area of about 2.6 acres and measures more than 50 feet at its deepest points.

It looks like the reason it turned green is because of all the Tunisians went swimming and peed in it.

a pond by most standards..

there are areas of the world where it would be referred to as a puddle.

The second and more interesting question is whether/how long it stays around.

That is a very big question, for how long.

""experts have warned that if the lake has indeed formed because of a rupture in the water table, the cracks from which the water came could cause the water to flow the other way and drag swimmers to the bottom."'

“flow the other way and drag swimmers to the bottom”

...or not.
But certainly a chance to cause panic when possible.
Better yet, a chance to get government involved to protect the women, minorities, seniors, gays, transgenders, those with ADHD, and disabilities, and.....

What is needed is a program to tax the owners of the land or adjacent parcels.

You think the people in that desert in Tunisia are worried about their government coming in to the tiny lake to “”protect the women, minorities, seniors, gays, transgenders, those with ADHD, and disabilities, and.....””?

“2.6 acres is NOT a lake. It’s a medium size pond.”

At this very moment, the EPA is writing 2,500 pages of new rules to assert jurisdiction over this pond.

This is a raindrop compared to all the water underground. There is as much water under the surface as there is on top of the surface. The Bible calls it “Fountains of the Great Deep”. How do you suppose the earth was covered in water? Do you think the the rain covered the whole earth? And where did all that supposed rain water go afterwards? Normally when it rains, the runoff goes into rivers and eventually ends up in the ocean. But if the entire globe is an ocean....then where did the water run off into? The FACT is that you cannot create enough rain to cover the earth because the rain comes from the evaporated water that was originally on the surface of the earth to begin with. Ask any Geologist and they will tell you that this is called the water cycle. Here is another little known secret.....All the water on this planet...never leaves this planet. All the H2O on this planet can never just disappear. It might evaporate and get dropped at a different location. Or a city might suck up all the water and flush it into the ocean. But there is still the same amount of water on the planet as before it evaporated or got sucked up. Every molecule of water has been used over and over again a gazzilion times, has been drank and pissed out by animals, fish and humans, been evaporated and become rain etc etc.
So the bottom line is that whatever caused Great Flood, also caused the Fountains of the Deep to expel the water to the surface. Kind of like a when a radiator blows its pressure valve. Once the earth cooled off again, the water drained back into the Great Deep. IMHO

That is what I was wondering. I guess time will tell.

I guess if I lived there, I would just enjoy as long as it existed.

Maybe the supercollider folks made a tiny black hole and it is zipping back and forth through the planet...making holes in Siberia, sucking up ocean water...etc. (/sarc?)
