PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. - Cats have been disappearing in one Port St. Lucie neighborhood so when Sergeant John Holman was called to the 600 block of SE Faith Terrace Friday morning for a report of another deceased cat, he made a startling discovery.

Hiding in some brush, Sgt. Holman spotted a 12-foot long 120-pound Burmese Python.

Neighbors believe the large snake has been feasting on their felines.

The Sergeant called for backup to help get the large predator from the brush.

Cops say the snake belongs to a person who lives near by. No charges have been filed as of yet.

It is illegal to own a python in the state of Florida without a F.W.C. permit, license.

If that thing had a sign around its neck saying "I am a dog", he wouldn't have needed any backup. He'd have shot it.......

Yep, Florida has seen to it — by NOT allowing python hunting AND paying a bounty for each slithery corpse — that your avg kitteh is no more than a potential snake snack.

Oh crap. You finally get a good news story, then the cops have to go and screw it all up.

I wonder what the local tv station program director thinks, seeing the newscaster finishing his story with a microphone in one hand, and the slimy head of a live python in the other? Snake bite not covered by policy, due to “Pre-existing foolishness of hired talker”

My first thought when I read that he had called for backup was, ‘Why not just shoot the snake and then drag it to the road?’

The people of Port St. Lucie are lucky that the snake didn’t decide to dine on any small children...

Both you and I know what the solution to the growing invasion of non-indigenous snakes in Fla is........but noooooooooo, they got to turn the damn thing over to a breeder.....

Open season, bounties and no licenses required is the answer to Fla's problem.......

If the Florida Legislature had any sense, and any backbone, the would outlaw all foreign species of snakes except in zoos. Give a 30 day surrender on current snakes, then a $50,000 fine for any infraction.

How stupid:
1. They want people to catch snakes, but first they need a permit.
2. They didn't kill it like they would your dog.
3. They are giving it too a "licensed" breeder. (Flori-duh doesn't have enough snakes yet?)

My two tuxedo cats would have made lunchmeat out of that snake. My girls don’t like being f@#ked with.
