Our Heavenly Father created cats to provide the faithful with pistol practice against moving targets.

As a 12-year old kid (No, Hoover was already out of office), my pals and I once had jobs on a private game preserve. Duties: keep feral cat population in check.
Compensation: $0:25 per cat. $0.50 per gravid specimen.
Tools: Hi-Standard .22 Auto-pistol,
unlimited .22 LR Hollow Points.

A week later my pubescent confrères and I could have put Wild Bill Hickock AND Annie Oakley to shame. Two weeks and about $25 later, job over.

BTW, feral cats, (usually the result of the summer people abandoning their pets) are an environmental disaster. Take out game birds .... like Grouse, Pheasants, Turkeys, Quail, Woodcock, i.e. anything ground-or-close-to-it nesting, not to mention song birds, snakes, rabbits, squirrels, etc. To be scrupulously fair to cat lovers (many of whom are Obama-voters who look like Elizabeth Warren on Gluten), raccoons can be just as bad. However, 'coons have one saving grace in my book. That is a big coon can can take any tomcat downtown and leave that yowling SOB w/o carfare. Yes!
Pop Quiz:
Q: How many .22 LR Hollow Points does it take to take out a big 'coon?
A: Unless it's a head shot, it could be as many as you (and the Hdwe Store) got!

The only advantage I see to the cat vs. just driving down the street with the same stuff in your car, is that cats routinely go in back yards and so on without anyone’s notice or complaint. But then, what’s the point of being able to catalog a network because your cat can go somewhere you can’t. How will you use that information in any useful way?

I just turn on the war drive app in my Android phone. Ride around on a bicycle. Why annoy a cat?

I’m assuming because certain OS’ don’t natively come with apps to locate wifi nodes, and you need a bit of help locating them.

Plus, it can help you locate some of the weaker-signaled ones that you can then target with a directional antenna.

Indeed. Plus, you can readily see that this project did not turn into a total...

catastrophe.

Yeah, I did think of that. Cat, wearing an omni in the back yard, finds a weak access point for which you can then aim a directional. Still seems like a lot of effort sunk for not much “gain”. (Antenna joke, LOL)

Well, considering the cat does all the legwork, other than spending some fun time getting the rig working right it beats hours of either pounding the pavement in areas where you might not be welcome to trod or painstakingly swiveling a high-gain directional antenna about to find some interesting sites.

Not a bad trade-off, I believe. :)

Plus, I’ve always wondered where the Feline Elders were hiding, just waiting for us can-opening slaves to fall asleep at the switch so they can rule the planet again. *grin*
