It’s extremely good character-driven drama. People here have commented that they became hooked even though they dislike the horror genre.
I thought the movie version of World War Z was better, too.

I think in the comic book they did go to DC. They made it to VA if I remember correctly.

My favorite character is Daryl. As a favorite hillbilly character, he ranks up with Billy Clyde from All My Children, and he is a stoic American hero, kind of like a damaged John Wayne character.
