I had been up late writing quarterly reports as part of my job. I was listening to Schubert's Trout Quintet for strings and piano, on replay. If I must write reports, I like doing so at night, where the quiet forces me to focus. I had finally gone to bed, fading off into Dreamland, when felt unplanned motion. The bed rumbled, rocked. The walls were trembling . Instantly, I knew this was an earthquake, and the first thought was #1, How long would it last? #2. Where are my shoes, pants, car keys and wallets? I have Parakeets and Zebra Finches, The Parakeets were shrieking, flapping, fussing and biting each other, but the Finches were more stoic. First though, I have to plan for my own safety. Then as suddenly as it began, the shaking stopped cold. The The Elephant Eared houseplants against the wall had stopped their swaying and their bouncing. The few large cups and books had already fallen to the floor. The electricity was still on. The radio was back on. From my perspective, this was not a bad quake, in that there is no obvious structural damage.
Nothing like the 4.8 quake felt in the 1980's while living in Berkelely. During one of the tremors, I gazed near the front door, and it looked as though, for a few seconds, the door and the surrounding wooden threshold had temporarily dissolved. I'm not kidding. For a few seconds, my view of the door was to see it as a soft, wavering taffylike mass. Something that could not be described as solid. Two seconds later, all the taffy-behavior stopped. Nothing at all like the quake in 1989, which I recall fully. Not nearly as devastating. Did anyone else in the Bay Area feel the quake?
Alcohol? I’ve read about the shaking.
The quake was centered on the Franklin Fault, which has been dormant for approximately 1.6 million years, according to USGS scientist David Oppenheimer.
1.6 million year dormancy?? uh oh
That’s really close to Davis, Ca. I hope my friend is ok.
He doesn’t answer his phone, and I’m worried.
I thought the drinker’s described the first stages of withdrawl as having Delirium Tremens, or, the Hebbie-Jeebies.
Your friend might not even have felt the quake. I have friends only 20 miles away and they are all fine.

Was it good for you?
I was in Alaska in 1964 for the 9.2, and El Centro, CA for the 7.3 on Easter Sunday a few years ago. No big deal in the news then. I guess I am just a little more used to the earth moving then most people.
I vaped an E-cig. for a while, then went back to sleep.
Glad you are ok too. I was at San Quentin at the time of the 89 quake. Not fun at all. I used to have to drive on blood alley, 37 to 101 south, to get there. Also not fun. Fortunately, I was able to transfer to the Vacaville joint in 90.
I remember the big one in 64. I do not remember the El Centro one, but I do remember Northridge, I think it was in 94.
Thank you. That makes me feel better.
Yeahm how’s that working out for them? I hear numerous repairs will be needed before it’s declared safe. This was before this morning’s quake. My hope is that Gov. Jerry future construction on Brown’s Great Train to Nowhere has been dramatically hampered by the quakes terrestrial changes.
For Northridge, I was in Monrovia at the time. I worked for McDonald Douglas.
At least with tornados you have a clue as to when to expect them.

True...but no tornadoes AND no mosquitoes! Cry me a river. :{) But seriously, I’m glad no apparent damage or injury was suffered.
I’ve been in about a dozen earthquakes, including major ones and most didn’t bother me a bit. But during the Northridge quake (I was working at the time and wide awake), I was literally scared out of my wits for about 5 minutes. The only word I can use to describe it is “vicious”.
