Tough crowd! Soccer ain’t for sissies, that’s for sure!
Jeez, they play for keeps!
Sounds like a crowd for a night game at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge. A few years back, a ref was knocked cold by a whiskey bottle thrown out of the stands during an LSU game, and players from the opposing teams were told to wear their helmets on the sidelines—even if there was no chance they would get in the game. All sorts of things were known to come flying out of the stands at LSU.
Time to play ‘who threw the vuvuzela’.
I thought Southerners were supposed to be polite.
A Duracell?
Years ago at Red Rocks amphitheater in Colorado, Gordon Lightfoot ended a concert early because of an empty beer bottle thrown at him.
Bitter disappointment after waiting many scorching hours in the heat. He graciously sang 2 songs after the incident, then left. Can’t blame him at all.
A few years ago I was contracted to do a very large job installing synthetic turf underneath the bleachers at FIU’s football stadium in Miami.
At first I didn’t understand the need, as the areas were already covered with coarse gravel.
Then the stadium manager explained to me that they wanted to get approved for FIFA games, and if they didn’t change the ground cover of these areas the fans would take the rocks into the stadium and throw them at the players.
Well, there’s always the Hell’s Angels security option - pay a bunch of roughnecks all the beer they can drink to keep the peace at a rock concert - what could go wrong?
The “object” that was “thrown” wouldn’t be a .50 caliber round would it?
Were they playing in Philly ?
Civility ends at the stadium entrance, at least in Baton Rouge and Tuscaloosa. There’s a long-running debate in the SEC as to which fans are the most obnoxious: LSU’s or Alabama’s.
Soccer: Get on Board, America!
RIP.
