Some two dozen West New York parents and school children protested at town hall today demanding that bus transportation be provided for some students while the Harry L. Bain School on Broadway near 62nd Street is being renovated and students attend a school six blocks away.

Yes, I too found it a bit confusing. All the streets were also names of Manhattan streets. And at first I read West New York as West Side of New York.
Given the bizarre entitlement society in which we live I was surprised they weren’t asking for tutors to be sent to each home. After all, if the kids can’t walk six blocks, why make them walk a block to the bus stop and then climb up the stairs of the bus?
Yeah, but Texas is big.
Any other state — 100 yards is max.
Uphill through deep snow. Both ways.
Given the way crime is going to EXPLODE in NY City after the election of their new mayor, those poor kids will be lucky to make it one block without being killed.
Of course the people demanding the rides are the ones that led the charge to give NYC a “kinder”, “gentler”, mayor.
Size of France, give or take, but without shade trees for the Germans to march in.

I've been to upstate NY. I know what they have there. Miles of miles in places.
I'd bet the NY kids could keep up at the Texas State Fair, too.
The trick is to feed them sodas and make them look for bathrooms.
The so-called 'adults' are the problem in this story.

...this here's the Duck...
... like a rocket-sled on rails...
crossing 6 avenues in NYC would be quite a walk. However 6 streets would be less that half that.
May be tough for small kids.
Everyone who wants their kid walking the streets of NYC 200 days a year click your mouse.
My family didn’t have a car when I was growing up in Rochester, NY. We walked or took the bus if we needed to go anywhere. High school was over a mile trek one way, in all kinds of weather. Hell, I never owned a new car until I was 40.
They'd get there faster if they ran.
West New York, Hudson County, NJ
This is dense populated WNY, NJ next to Union City, NJ Home of Congressman Sires.
E: "What trap?"
Me, handing him the field glasses: "Follow that fence line until it comes to the game trail.. Follow that trail back to the trap, it's off to the side. Do you see it?
E: "Um... there? (points SE, generally, near the hill the trap is at the base of)."
Me: "Yep, right up there. I'll go put on a bright shirt and point you that direction when you get close"
E: "What about hogs and bobcats and coydogs and stuff?"
Me: "Hurry faster".
Yeah... some kids or grandparents would have a problem with 6 NYC blocks.
Some wouldn't.
The trap did get reset.
The kid made it back safe.
He cherishes the folding knife I gave him.
Different strokes for different folks.

“West New York, Hudson County, NJ”
LOL...I’m too pre-programmed - my mind says “Upper West Side”.
Can’t they come up with a BETTER NAME for their useless city?
And... how did you cook that coyote?
EXCEPT this is a story about West New York in the state of New Jersey, it’s NOT NYC.
No one here seems to know a thing about the neighborhood, the schools, or the 6 blocks, whether it’s drug/crime infested. But, alas, everyone has an opinion.
