Bring back the draft. Then allow them to vote. The draft would be one helluva educational tool.
And draft everyone for two years of public service. And delay repayment of student loans for the duration.
You mean white 18 year olds. //sarcasm
Well damn...if we waited to send 21year olds off to war, they would be too smart to go! ( just kidding...I know lots of 21year olds who served bravely.).
But some sheltered daisies wouldn't get to vote until they turn 27!
Bringing back the draft now would be nothing more than another big government welfare program. The military doesn’t want or need most 18 year olds. Baby-sitting is not the job of the military.
This is true. It used to be 21. I was not able to vote until age 21.
>>The 18 year old vote came out of the 60s, so did the lowering of the drinking age, the laws were changed in the early 70s.
Half right. Drinking age was raised in the ‘70s due to the Mad Moms. Many states had an 18 drinking age.
The lowered drinking ages came out of the 1960s, although the actual legislation going FROM 21 to 18 took place in the very early 1970s, 1971, 1972, 1973.
Since there were variations among the states, that is a general statement encompassing the overview for the nation.
The raising of the drinking ages BACK to 21, that you are talking about, came about in the 1980s.
I’d rather keep it on Tuesday, open the polls at 5 am and close them about 3 pm. What do you suppose that would do to the zombie voter turnout?
The draft has nothing to do with “babysitting”, it had to do with getting men instead of 18 year old females and single moms in their late 30s, getting men of young warrior age, 18 and 20 year olds.
The WWII Army was 93% draftees, the Marines and Navy also drafted, in WWI 72% of the Army was drafted, in Vietnam only the Army and Marines drafted and 25% of the Army was draftee.
You want babysitters? Then look at today’s military where day care and single moms is literally a part of military life, and where gynecologists and tampons are facts of a modern soldiers life.
“The Twenty-sixth Amendment (Amendment XXVI) to the United States Constitution prohibits the states and the federal government from denying the right of US citizens, eighteen years of age or older, to vote on account of age. The drive to lower the voting age from 21 to 18 grew across the country during the 1960s, driven in large part by the broader student activism movement protesting the Vietnam War.”
Remember the end when Max Frost stomps the boys crawdad, “Don’t trust anyone over 14”.
People can vote when they can get off their parents insurance
27
It probably should be 25. But with an exemption for military and law enforcement (police/fire, et al).
Close the polls on time, no extensions to "find" more votes!
clear the voter rolls at least every 2 years if not more often
If anyone had said that to me when I was 18 I would have kicked their a$$ so hard they wouldn’t have landed yet.
