Of course a huge number of them have been teenage boys—the combination of invincibility with a touch of omniscience is a difficult one to survive. It is a wonder that any of us made it to adulthood.

Looking at memorials on the piers I noticed that they died usually in 2s or 3s. Two teenage boys and often the adult male who tried to save them.

I read somewhere that 97% of all the scientists in the whole world agree that the only thing we can do to prevent this sort of thing from getting even worse and more frequent is to give money to Al Gore. I’ll try to find a reference.

The Great Lakes can be as violent as the ocean. 30 foot waves are not unheard of.
