I would send cookies but will need to see the weather forecast. it was BRUTALLY hot on Saturday [but overcast, threatening rain and actually CHILLY today!]. I am not going to pay $ to send a sodden mass of dough to yinz!

It rained off and on most of yesterday, and was sprinkling again when I left work awhile ago because it is too wet to set forms.
No way am I going to believe there is no way to cut something else and have a “real” system for the firefighters-or are those in charge of the disaster that Detroit has become just hoping it will all burn down?
Congratulations to your family. You could send cookies to me. Even virtual cookies would be welcome, as they have started my new floor today, and I have no refrigerator, stoves, freezer, dishwasher and (of course) no washer and dryer. I am trapped in a noisy house with three men banging around (counting my husband who can’t keep out of the project). None of them take directions from me! They keep asking for instant decisions like “you don’t really want that swinging door between the kitchen and the dining room do you?”
Woe, is me. A cookie would be nice right now. I can’t even reach my cookie jar!
The good news is that the paint is finished in the laundry room, and I LOVE. We painted it red after 2 otherr cans of paint looked blah on the wall. I love my red laundry room so much I may move my laptop out there. There is a built in desk that I’ve never used because the previous wall color (sky blue) wasn’t very welcoming. The blue was blah with the off white counters. The red has a lot of pizzaz.
I spent the morning at the laundromat which was a learning experience for me. I haven’t set foot in a laundromat since 1961. I managed to find 3 machines that didn’t work (after they ate $6 of my quarters). The whole experience cost me $17 for 2 large loads of wash (counting the lost change). I loaded my wash into machines 6-8 times, rejecting one machine after the other. Grrrrrr. I’m glad I won’t have to do that much longer.

It is chilly and overcast after the brutally hot weekend. my TX family was hoping for a respite from the TX heat and found that yes indeed DC can be equally bad in the dog days of late August/early Sept. none of them would have ever acknowledged it before experiencing it firsthand!
thank you! the red laundry room sounds beautiful! xshub went to the Laundromat for me during the brief period between our old washer breaking and the new one being delivered and it was a CULTURAL experience for him bc it was 100% Spanish speakers in there on top of the quarters etc. a little San Salvador it was.
The previous room had an old red floor and fake “persian” rugs to cover the places were the floor was splitting and peeling. I realzed when it was halfway painted that we have traded a red floor for red walls. However, I can’t express how great it looks. It completely changes the feel of the room and makes me want to spend time there.
The new floor will look like slate in tones of blue, grey, tan. It is something called LVT (luxury vinyl tile) and carries a lifetime warranty. (Don’t ask whose lifetime). In any case, it is very tough and they are doing a heck of a job with new undelayment throughout. They had an expert talking about floors on Fox & Friends this AM and he said that if you couldn’t have engineered hardwood, a product like this is your best bet, especially if it is exposed to water.
This floor is extending through 4 rooms (laundry room, kitchen, 1/2 bath, and front entry hall) and three closets. New underlayment and leveling throughout. It’s costing a fortune and is highly disruptive!

I’m sitting here with my mouth agape about a husband going to the laundromat for the family.
I sympathize with you having workers there while you are home. It is a stressful experience to have people in and out, banging around, and trying to keep animals contained and adjusting your schedule to theirs. Hang in there, it sounds like it will be gorgeous when it’s done.
It is in the upper 80’s here, and was only 85 yesterday-the rain came with a little cool front-I would not have thought the DC area would be really hot in summer, either, but I’ve never spent more than a couple of days there, and that years ago and in early winter.
It’s so NOISY. There are saws, air guns, slap hammers, lots of banging, plus another worker has joined the crew. They are all wearing earbuds and playing music. I can hear all of that, even though it is supposed to be only going into their individual ears. Plus my husband is here and has the TV on. I’d like to scream at all of the racket!
And all of the tattoos! It’s like a walking art gallery in my kitchen!
Last night our dryer died...no heat. I was planning to stop on the way home this morning to check what coinage I would need to use the dryers at the laundromat when DH called to say the repairman would be at the house within the hour. Dryer was repaired and I got my laundry done at home. Phew! After reading your saga, I am glad I could avoid it.
