Replacing a keyboard is easy? I’ve been misled then with everything I’ve read. I did basically the same thing as your daughter...a few errant drops and fried a row of keys.

Do you remember where you got the new keyboard?

You can find them at a lot of places via the Internet, I bought from eBay. There were Chinese sellers selling for $45 to $80 or so, but I didn't trust them as being absolutely new and Apple certified, some looked recycled. I bought from eBayer I2repair in New York. Totally brand new. White ones are cheaper, the black one cost me $109 with free shipping. There a various videos out there on opening the case and replacing components. Hardest part was separating the top lid around the keyboard from the bottom case, used a couple plastic credit cards and plastic tool just like opening iPod cases. Once you do it once, it's easy next time. Note that Apple would charge several hundred or more if out of warranty, which is the case of my daughter's laptop. Why pay them if you can do it?

Incidentally, eBayer I2repair sells other new keyboards from $27 and up. The one I bought is an older model which is probably why it cost a hundred.

If you’re going to repair anything on a Mac go to https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Mac

They are impossible to fix without these guides. OK, not impossible, but tossing them through a plate glass widow doesn’t count as fixing.

They often have links to parts also.
