The professor is all aghast at Weird Al’s approval of grammatical absolutes. It’s almost as bad as being white. Clearly he’s going to hell for two reasons now.
Actually three. When Al celebrated he fact that the T rex ate the lawyer in his, "Jurassic Park" parody that was 'evil' as well...

My speech, punctuation and spelling may not be perfect but it is understandable to English speakers around the world.

As an education institution has a responsibility to the child to prepare them for the REAL world...you want to be in business? Speak correctly. Dou want to work in science or technology? You’d better be able to articulate things extremely precisely.

...these idiots are the same ones complaining that there’s so few blacks in science and technology. We’re in a GLOBAL economy, I work with people in Romania that speak MUCH better English than many over here. It helps them be successful. We DON’T hire people we can’t easily communicate it, especially as much of it is over the phone.

Requiring correct spelling and grammar is just micro-agression.

Professors are feeling hopeless

Based solely on the title, nothing is more delicious than the tears of fascist liberal control freak asshats.

Proper grammar allows for clarity of thought and meaning. It is a natural obstacle to those intellectual leftists who deliberately strive to dumb down our language by replacing English with gutter Newspeak.

That this man is a college professor is completely appalling.

Can you say "First-world problem"?

I remember a time when using BAD grammar got you shunned. Now, thanks to the false egalitarianism of the lowest common denominator, the opposite holds true.

Thank you, Post-modernists.

Now that's odd, isn't it? Because our good Professor appears to imagine that "social equity, class, education, race, age, ethnicity, gender" have specific, clearly delineated meanings and are to be used in specific ways. Bit of a language fascist himself, isn't he?

At the root, the professor is upset that usage of grammar, spelling, and punctuation can distinguish those who actually received a superior education from those who didn’t.

I ran the proffesors comments through a dialectizer set to "jive" to see if it made any more sense:

Super honcho Squires tut-tutted, “Many lin'uists is shakin' deir haids and feelin' some little hopeless about whut de public endusiasm about it represents, dig dis: a society where largely trivial, largely arbitrary standards uh lin'uistic co'rectness is heavily privileged, and sucka's feel justified in attackin' dose who don’t do doodads de ‘co'rect’ way. Slap mah fro!”

Hmmm... I must conclude that stupid is still stupid in any dialect.

It all started to go downhill in the 60’s when Langston Hughes and Maya Angelou were being taught as superior to Tennyson and Shakespeare.

The professor is myopic.

No, the professor is an idiot. When Weird Al is smarter than a "professor", it's hard to call them a professor.

We saw Weird Al in concert a few years ago. I highly recommend seeing him!

This professor’s whining about teaching kids proper language that might enable them to escape poverty reminds me of a study I read. Researchers in some Scandanavian country followed a group of kids in a rural area from infancy up until early adulthood. One finding was that kids who began speaking the standard language, as opposed to using the slang/linguistic peculiarities of the area, ended up going to college and moving to where they could pursue well-paying careers. This was spontaneous behavior among the kids, and began as soon as they learned to speak. Those who were destined for success spoke properly from the start.

Learning proper English is imperative.

If you can’t read and comprehend and if you cannot express yourself articulately... you will NOT succeed in other subjects either.... because ...wait for it.....

YOU’LL HAVE TO READ TEXT BOOKS (or instructions) AND WRITE OUT TEST ANSWERS AT SOME POINT!!!!!
