My opinion on the matter?
One tries as best one can to get the best conservative through the primary process so that one can eagerly vote for that conservative in the general election. If one’s preferred choice—the best conservative—can’t survive the primary, then one votes to do the least possible damage in the general election.
In some very small number of cases, that might mean sacrificing a Republican in Name Only (RINO) who does serious damage (more than the Democrat) to the conservative cause. For example, that might be a RINO in a leadership position that has far more power to thwart conservatives than a junior Democrat. However, I want to emphasize that these situations are very, very few and far between, and in no way should the majority ever be sacrificed to send a message to the RINOs and/or eliminate one bad apple.
No matter what, a Republican or Democrat will end up in every one of these seats. There may be some independents, but when the time comes to vote, they have to pick which team they’re on. I have to ask myself, is it better to have Democrats or Republicans running the senate?
I respect both sides of this argument, but for me, I’m going to try to limit the damage done by this president as best I can. If that means I gotta elect a RINO incumbent, I’m going to do it with no regrets. We’re past the time—the primaries—to put better conservatives in these seats. Now I’m gonna vote for the best of the two remaining options, and it sure isn’t going to be a vote for a Democrat!
So all the GOP has to do is put another leftist RINO up because you will vote for them. They have no reason to put a conservative up. So under your scenario a conservative is never going to see elected office. that’s the only possible outcome since the GOP will slaughter them in the primaries with the cash of their donors and Dem assistance (as in cochran.
You constructed a perfect no win scenario for Conservatism and America and if people join you, there is no point in participating in politics at all. Just vote straight ticket GOP no matter what they do because ‘the dem is worse’ whether the Dem is or not or whether the Pub is a dem or not.
How does that make you or any voter following that scenario different from a democrat voter? How does America emerge from under the thumb of liberal governance if it is guaranteed perpetual election?
