Road & Tracks Jason Cammisa busted a fuse during a recent drive of the 2015 Ford Mustang EcoBoost, he discovered something odd. Both the engine and the stereo went silent inside the car.
It appears that the vaunted Ford Mustang the original pony car, according to Jalopnik has succumbed to piping in enhanced engine noise through the speakers.
Autoblog investigated further, speaking to Ford engineer Shawn Carney who revealed that the engine-sound augmenting system is called Active Noise Control, and that only the turbocharged four-cylinder Mustang comes with it.
...
With the Ecoboost engine we have both active noise cancellation, and we also amplify the existing engine sound order, Mustang Chief Engineer Dave Perciak told Car Magazine last December. We dont create an artificial sound, we dont pluck one off the shelf, we bring in the real sound, process it, and play it through the cars speakers.

>>Well, then, you know that a Mustang GT and a WRX are pretty equally matched, with a tuner WRX and a good driver being more likely to win any matchup. Challenger I cant say but Mustang GT, sure. I can take them in a heavy GT turbo wagon hauling dogs in the back, lol.
You can tune a Mustang just like you can tune a WRX and the Mustang can have a good driver too. Now the Challenger is slower because it weighs 1000 pounds more than a Mustang and 2000 more than the typical ricer.
I’m not saying that all ricers are slow. Every now and I then, I see one that is just scary-fast! But, around here most of them are just fartcans and big wings. We don’t see many of the SoCal F&F tuner guys around here.
Sooooo...what do You ride?
Just Curious.
I knew a guy who had a Yugo GT with a fake scoop. He painted “Insert 25 cents” and an arrow on it.
Be careful of cars that pipe stuff into the passenger compartment.

They’re a blast to drive and that thrumming sound, I love the things. There are street legal tuned WRX with 1000 hp rolling around in many places. When you encounter one you’ll know, they’re not all boy racers with stupid wings and fartcans, lol. Look for an adult in a low-key modded sleeper if you want to see what one can do.
Remember glasspacks?

I’ve encountered them. WRX drivers are about the only guys in Jap cars that are serious racers. Never seen one with 1000 hp though (the guys at IWSTI.com threw the BS flag on that one though). But, even the ones with 400-500 hp (before the NOS) have a lot more than a tune.
That’s what I usually hear: “My heavily-modded import can beat a factory Mustang.” For what they spent on that 500 hp, I can easily supercharge my Mustang and have 650 hp and not even have to touch the internals because the 5.0 can handle that much and more.
There are more than a few YouTube vids on dyno around. 1000, even 1200. It’s no bs.
Because youboob is the ultimate authority...
how bout a wiki link to go with it to cement it?
There are an awful lot of tuner shops lying on video for some strange reason, if the claims are inflated. They’re very tough little engines that will take a whole lot of boost. I have no problem whatsoever in accepting it.
I read recently that the highest HP crate engine you can buy is a 1050HP twin turbo 4cyl.
Frankly I’ll take easy cylinders and cubes any day over screaming vibration.
to bring more customers in???
Noo... that could not be it...
I managed to push 625 out of what was a 2.3L turbo pinto engine in a 1985 Merkur XR4Ti..
It’d make ya poop your pants, but after a season at the strip it was done.
Saw a 650 HP turbocharged 2004 Honda S2000. I’ll stick with my stock 2005, it’s plenty fast enough.
Run a web search on Subaru 1000 hp engine, take a look and tell me if you actually believe that every one of those parts suppliers, manufacturers, mechanics, shops, auto sales groups and drivers are all lying. 1000 hp 4 cylinder racing engines are not uncommon. It’s not as if this is some sort of engineering impossibility. The ECU tune requires 110 octane for these, my Cobb Accessport has that setting.

What’s that mod cost and how long does that engine last? How much boost is that and how much of the 1000/1200 is NOS?

Yeah. I’ll mod a car a little, but not enough to make it destroy itself. I’d do a 50% increase in HP from NA to supercharged, but not going to take it beyond that.
We’ve gone from “it’s bs” to questioning the durability of it, so that’s progress at least, lol.

Its not an engineering impossibility. But, what’s that cost? Once you get into $20k in mods, you just aren’t being realistic anymore. I’m not going to be sitting next to that at a stop light on the way to work any time soon.
