I want Gefn to be back home, too. One of my mother’s friends has just gotten over a terrible infection she picked up while having a hip replacement. Everyone is safer outside the hospital!

Boy, you can say that again. I had a blood clot in my leg, and for a few months I had to drop by the hospital regularly to have the level of medicine in my blood checked. I always wondered if I would pick up a bug just from those short visits.
Glad your mom’s friend is doing better!

It was touch and go for a while - they’re nearly 80 - but now she’s gung-ho again, and going on a Mississippi River cruise next month.

I love to hear of older folks staying active and enjoying life...that’s wonderful.

Mom’s travel companions include a couple of her friends from high school and some from the Navy. My dad is going downhill, so Mom isn’t going on the cruise. She said it was too expensive, anyway.

I understand why she wants to be with your dad. Those cruises can be pretty infectious, too. Ugh.

Germs everywhere, and when you’re old, any one could be IT.
I’m going to Florida next month to see my parents. My father is in an Alzheimer’s care home, and Mom is edgy about his health. If an Alzheimer’s patient gets pneumonia, that’s usually it.

Yep, you have to keep on top of things. My husband’s grandmother has Alzheimer’s, and she’s in a care home, too. Last night we were talking about going to visit her while she can still enjoy the visit.

My father didn’t know me when I was there last here, but he was in good health physically. It’s not going so well this year.

I really am sorry. I’ve been through that with both parents. It’s difficult.

It’s amazing that your husband’s grandmother is still alive. I know you’re older than I am!

Yep, I’m 50, David is 47. His grandmother had her children young, believe me.

I’m 48, and the last of my grandparents died in 1998. We ran to long generations!

There’s considerable longevity on David’s side of the family, too. His grandmother had four sisters, and they all died of Alzheimer’s. She’s the last one left.

My father was 30 when I was born, and his mother was 30 when he was born. My mother’s parents were even older.
I was 24 when Anoreth was born, and 45 when Kathleen was born. Since I’ve never smoked, I can reasonably expect to live until Kathleen is in her 30s.

My parents were in their 40s when they had me. Mom lived to be 80, but Daddy died at 73. He smoked nearly all his life.
