The health officials said 80 people may have come into contact with Duncan, NBC reported. Earlier, they had put the figure at up to 18, including five children.

State officials delivered the order on Wednesday night to the family of the patient, who has been identified as Thomas Eric Duncan of Liberia. Family members must stay home until Oct. 19 and not have any visitors without approval, officials said.

"We have tried and true protocols to protect the public and stop the spread of this disease," said Dr. David Lakey, Texas health commissioner. "This order gives us the ability to monitor the situation in the most meticulous way."

Dallas health officials have said that 12 to 18 people, including five Dallas ISD students, have come in direct contact with Duncan. Another 80 or so indirect contacts — people who came in contact with those dozen or so direct contacts — are possible, county health director Zachary Thompson said.

Exactly. Ebola’s transmission could be raging on around the country by the ten-of-thousands this morning, and they’ll find out about, oh, three weeks from now.

Nobody knows.

So they take little tiny half measures.

And the population of the entire world is at risk, because it would be politically incorrect to quarantine potentially affected people, countries, etc.

So its 80 indirect contacts of the 12-18 people, 5 of them kids. So a good part of this group of 80 could be kids?

Dangit, it’s 6:40 and my brain ain’t workin’ yet. I was told there would be no math.

6,400.

Excepting we don’t know the transmission rate, etc. ;-)

Nobody knows, which is the point. There could be a few, dozens, hundreds, thousands or hundreds of thousands infected by now.

Ebola is not as easily spread as some fear.

Although the first patient, a businessman named Patrick Sawyer, was vomiting on his flight in, none of the roughly 200 others on the plane fell ill. Others did after helping him into a taxi to a hospital.

And a patient in Port Harcourt went to her church and became violently ill during a ceremony in which the congregation laid hands on her. But none became infected.

The key word is allows.

Did you see anything in that article that states that armed guards would be sitting on that property?

We’re talking about a killer disease here and sorry, but there should be no leeway here.

the ‘tried and true’ method being to ask people to stay home, not forced quarantine?

yea... that’ll work.

seriously, when the chips are down, are you really going to trust the leadership of a slack ass pot head? that’s what we’re doing with 0bama.

good luck with that, America

Just curious.

How many health care workers is it taking to take care of just one Ebola patient and how many Ebola patients would it take to completely overwhelm the system?

In a clarification of earlier reports, Dallas County Health and Human Services spokeswoman Erikka Neroes says the Ebola contact investigation has grown ‘to more than 80’ people, which includes the 12 to 18 people who 1st came into contact with the infected man, as well as others they in turn had contact with; she was unable to specify how those initial people came in contact with the larger group - @AP

Yours said 80 people, the new report says “has grown ‘to more than 80’ people,”

Not griping at you, just think they are minimizing what is going on here.... what is more than 80?

81
100
200? etc.....
