The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks.

No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Here’s a link courtesy of Black Agnes regarding Okra and that whacky weed:

So heads up to all you okra fans.

I’m still going but only on 3 cylinders as the old ticker needs a tuneup. We are still picking tomatoes (lots of them) and I cut 3 pumpkins off the vine and turned them over with 15 to go. Strawberries are done and the carrots so big and tough that the deer won’t even eat them. I have everything ready to spade and plant all the garlic next week but had to buy new seed stock because the rust wiped out my crop this year. We are over run with skunks & raccoons and had to call in the Federal Trapper to thin them out plus I’m trapping and dispatching them myself…

I am going to get some of that! We have about a quarter of an acre of natural wild plants and flowers. We don’t mow it until after it has flowered. I could make a small bed of this in a couple of bare spots there.

Nice job on the pics. I am lousy at photography.

Yes, that’s the only reason I did it. Reading the sq. foot gardening book, he made the statement that it was almost impossible to over water it. I knew that was one of my problems.

You can make your own. Equal parts by volume of Peat moss, Compost(as many varieties as you can find), and vermiculite. Put it in a wheel barrow or on a tarp to mix it well. After each harvest, put in more compost and side dress with whatever fertilizer you like.

Parsley has overwintered for me, down to five degrees, in wet cold and in dry cold. Because it is a biennial, it is determined to live that second year to make seed. It may freeze to the ground, but look for little leaves during any warm spells.

I will certainly share some pics as I build the boxes, and into spring.

Well we’ll see. I just went out and covered them up. The weather report said that we probably wouldn’t get a frost because the winds were going to be strong enough to prevent it, but that we might.

Ever since I got fooled by frost at 37 degrees, I am a little more cautious, and I really want to see if I can get these mature enough to see what the devil they are.

Also covered the newly sprouted lettuce, carrots and spinach and the peppers that are still going. They are too big to dig up and bring in.

How to post an image

The images have to have a URL (i.e., be posted somewhere on the web with an address). Photobucket makes the process easy for somebody who knows what he/she's doing (not me).

Thanks, ShadowAce!

It took me an hour today just to access my email and print out a lousy 1 page document. I am not only techno deficient in brain power, I am techno deficient in equipment, and fiscally deficient in money to purchase new equipment.

I am one deficient chick.LOL

Oh, really? It takes me at least 15 minutes to post a link correctly, and about an hour to get an image right. The posters here can do it as easily as falling out of bed, so please send up a flare to me when you’re scraping the very bottom of the barrel. Then be prepared to wait...and wait.... (*czackle*)
