Cuomo Sells 945 Copies of Book; Paid Over $700,000 Advance

Andrew Cuomo's book is a dud. The memoir, released last week, has sold 945 hardcover copies in its first week of sales, Amy Chozick of the New York Times reports.
"Andrew Cuomo's memoir sold 945 hardcovers in first week on shelves, according to BookScan. That's right, guys, 945 copies," writes Chozick on Twitter.

Do you have any idea how many copies of Cuomo’s book the publisher printed and how much it cost them?
This will cost them $700,000 + publishing cost - (($18.33 (Amazon hard cover price) x 945 = $17,321.85)).
Holy smoke, that is amazing. What did you do when you started, you just kept on trying till you got a deal? Man, and I know that book “48 liberal lies”, I’ve seen it before. So YOU are the guy who wrote that? That is fantastic. And it went to every legislator ha ha!! That is the best thing I heard all year! How much would it cost to send a million copies to Nancy Pelosi?

Will at least 200,000 people want to purchase New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s forthcoming memoir? His publisher, HarperCollins, is betting on it.
Mr. Cuomo’s book, “All Things Possible: Setbacks and Success in Politics and Life,” will have an initial print run of 200,000 copies, according to a spokeswoman for HarperCollins, which, like The Wall Street Journal, is owned by News Corp.
That is an exceptionally large first printing, though still one-fifth the size of the initial run for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s recent book, “Hard Choices,” which received a first printing of one million copies.
Eventually, all the public and academic libraries will buy up the stock, then the books will sit on the shelves for a year or two unread, then the libraries will sell them for a quarter each at their next booksale.
This is certainly going to cost Harper Collins again.

I have a friend who had to give up as a screenwriter in LA, moved to Texas, and just got a multi-book deal for his fiction books.
Writers write, all the time. Keep at it. Write anything you can, articles, travelguides, whatever.
That’s a huge print run, larger than any book I’ve ever had, including “Patriot’s History of the US” which was printed in different printings as demand rose.
Not another liberal’s I-just-discovered-something-meaningful-in-my-exciting-special-life-and-you-need-to-know-so-the-world-will-be-a-better-place.
Spare me.
I estimate that a publisher charges about 3 times what their cost is. I estimate that based on the fact that as a writer, I can get a 40% discount. So I have to figure that they are still making some pennies on every copy they sell me.
Reason....most of the people who WOULD want to read it can’t read.

a $1,882,678.20 loss.
Add to that Simon & Schuster’s $10 million loss with Hillary’s book, “Hard Choices.”
